Virtual DJ 8: BPM Editor

Thanks a lot for this video. I've had VDJ for a while and just play with it off and on for fun. In doing some other tutorials, the beat blocks (what I now know as the beat grid) I just took for granted as always being right. Your video has helped me tremendously figure out what I saw as a simple mechanism that I could barely see and turned it into something very useful. Also, nice choice for Bitchin' Camaro to use as an example! Fun song that definitely could use practice on with finetuning.

As a drummer, I feel that the better way for you to describe the spot around 5:50, is that when VDJ determines the BPM, sometimes it doubles the BPM. So instead of say, 80 BPM, it says it's 160 BPM. Sometimes it's the opposite....saying it's 80 BPM when it really should be 160 BPM (like "happy" by Pharrell). Cheers!

Thanks for your time. I have another doubt, I use virtual dj 8 parallel with a folder, I can issue drag songs and put on each plate, for example, I use 4 plate, but only allows me to upload first. However, in virtual dj 7 if you can load in a parallel folder to any dish. to do in virtual dj 8 if you can ..... thanks.

I'm not sure if I understand your problem. Are you trying to load multiple songs at the same time?

Echo Papa virtual dj 7 I defined it down and open a parallel program folder, question that I can grab and drop songs to different dishes and not necessarily would have to do it from within the virtual, but outside, in the VD7 can, but in vdj8 only allows me to upload a song on a plate when I do this from outside the program, that is, parallel vdj8 and a parallel program folder. I like working with the middle open program and a folder to the side, not the entire open vdj.

KARAOKE MARTILLO I understand. On Virtual DJ 7, you can drag multiple songs from an outside folder, into Virtual DJ 7. You are correct, Virtual DJ 8 only loads the first song. The closest thing that you can do to fix this, is to load your songs from outside into the side list and then load them into the decks. Sorry.

Excellent EP! Was looking for a way to adjust the BPM inside of a single track that has multiple songs with multiple BPMs so that I can still create loops within each of those single tracks. Time consuming, but at least I now know it can be done! Cheers!

Thanks for the info vids, Learned quite a bit most of my work is with the Karaoke part and I have a question after you do all the bpm will it save it on that particular song so that every time you play it? And how can you save the key on a song so it don't change on you? Once again thanks.

Hey Jesse. If you adjust the BPM on a song it will remember it for next time. You can change the key of a song, but it will not save it for next time.

I was thinking, you could probably get VDJ to remember a key change with a action point.

Hi Echo Papa, Thx for your greats vids about VDJ. Regarding the BPM Editor, If I wel understand, if I want to have a perfect beat match (with an older song, before the rythm box) it's necessary to re assign every beat manualy into the BPM Editor ? After that, it fix always the beat at the perfect tempo (like a beat box) ?

Quick question.If I was playing a track and I wanted to add a sampler to it. would the sampler automatically sync with the track?

If you set it up that way. Load your sample, right mouse click on it and bring up the sample editor. You can select Syncing from there.

great tools, thank you for doing these. As cool as the bpm editor is, I have so many songs that transition its unrealistic for me to sit down and go through everyone of them. I don't use set lists very often, I play on the fly. It's easier for me to be able to set the bmp on the fly and set the down beat with the tap button. I used to be able to do this with 7 on my PC, can't seem to make it work with 8 on my MAC. Any ideas?

Hi Echo Papa! Continue doing these videos as they are very informative and you go into much better detail than the official vids :) My question to you is how would I set 2 bpms for a track? I use transition mixes live when moving genres to keep the flow of the mix, will dropping new beat anchors in these places allow me to set different bpms for that part of the track? It's usually the beginning 8-16 beats of a track that are slower or faster than the rest that's all..

Personally I hate the VDJ BPM editor, and find it to be almost useless for anything other than realigning the downbeat anchor. I watched this just to see if you had figured out something I had missed. IMO, it is a very crude tool in comparison to what is offered by Serato for this purpose.

Oh man have you swallowed a radio or something? Become a politician or something 18 minutes to explain how to adjust bpm
