Virtual Wax Sessions vol. 10: Aural Imbalance Special [Vinyl Reality][Valve Index]

Simon Huxtable (aka Aural Imbalance) is one of the most unique Artists in all of the atmospheric Drum and Bass genre. His sound could be best described as ''Drum and Bass for the Space Age'' Or "Stratospheric Drum and Bass".
Aural Imbalance is one of my favorite Atmospheric DnB producers, that's why i decided to dedicate a mix to his amazing music.
And because this is Drum and Bass for the space age, it was most appropriate to make this mix on the surface of the moon. ;)

I had never heard Nine Tease prior to this video, so hearing it fade in at 30:23 nearly took my breath away... Aural Imbalance is truly unique in being able to blast you off somewhere else. Massive mix, incredible that it was made in VR!

Thank you! I appreciate that. I'm glad that you have discovered OG atmospheric dnb. It is a genre that was mostly forgotten since the heydays of the mid 90s to early 2000s. But in the last 2-3 years the genre started to gain lots of momentum again. Many new producers got interested in oldschool atmo dnb and some of the "old guard" also came back. It is an exciting time for atmospheric dnb in general, so you got into this gerne at the right time. :)

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it. The software i used to make this mix is called Vinyl Reality - An extremely accurate Turntable Simulator for VR. If you have a Virtual Reality Headset like Meta Quest or Valve Index and a VR capable PC, you will be able to do the same. Cheers!

@midorian12491 I use multiple headsets, but in this video i use the Valve Index. You will need a gaming PC with a mid range GPU and CPU. Back when i made this video i was on a i7 8700K and a RTX2080ti system.

@@os_oz In a way, yes. The DJ app (Vinyl Reality) itself doesn't support multiplayer but there are platforms like VRChat, where people organize VR raves. People come to dance into a virtual club, where a DJ (VR or IRL) is being shown on a big screen. We also got our own dedicated Vinyl Reality club in VRChat called The Nexus. We took the whole "DJ on a screen" concept a bit further and through some tinkering, your avatar and decks from the DJ app will be projected in real time on stage in the club. So it looks as if the DJ is really standing in the club without using a screen. It looks pretty convincing :)

Hi Mr. Tripnot sir. Is there anyway to get a digital copy anywhere of 'Nine Tease' that is played in your set. I absolutely love that track. I found it on Discogs but its in europe 5000 miles away. It would be nice if these tracks were more easily obtainable. I've been listening to this set over and over at work for months.

Yes, i did mix this in VR. It's a software called Vinyl Reality - a fully functional turntable simulator. It's available for PCVR and Quest, though the quest version lacks features like custom environments, reactive lighting, Spout support and some other minor stuff. I use the PCVR version. If you have a VR capable PC then definitely get the PCVR version.

I like such rhythms a lot, but I am looking for music in a purely instrumental style without vocals, vocal samples and voices, and it is not easy to find. I have a few Drum & Bass albums in my collection that are purely instrumental, but most of these rhythms, unfortunately, are combined with vocals, vocal inserts, et cetera. Great rhythms tainted by the human voice.

i think, vocals have their place in drum and bass as in any other genre. But the tricky part is to do it right. Too much focus on vocals in a DnB track is rather unnecessary. Drum and Bass is mostly instrumental in it's nature. But there are some tracks, where the vocals are done in such a pristine way that it makes the track perfect. P.S. This mix is purely instrumental. No vocals throughout the whole thing ;)
