Fantastic video and informative! I would like to share my advice and experience as I was in Russia recently. I'm Canadian and was in Russia in September and October and followed a similar method for transferring money and opening up a bank account. Here is what I went through: 1. Withdrew new USD bills in Canada (not at the airport like was said in the video). 2. Exchanged a small amount (1000-2000 roubles) to get a SIM card at the airport. 3. After acquiring the SIM Card, I opened up a bank account. 4. Exchanged the remainder of my USD bills at an exchange, not a bank. I exchanged a total of ~3000 USD to roubles, I didn't use all of that as I will be going back to Russia. Definitely make sure the USD bills are new, and if you transfer over 10,000 USD, make sure to declare at customs, and don't worry - the Russian border guards won't confiscate it.
@Sverbog23 күн бұрын
For step 1 to exchange bills it was ment to get rubles at the airport as a starting point like you did in step 2. They came from the US so they already had USD and didn’t need to do the extra step I think.

It comes out on a surface on the front of the banknote in the shape of a window; there is a multitone & highlight watermark on the right unprinted area; The coat-of-arms of the city of Khabarovsk is printed in optically variable magnetic ink (OVMI) with the effect of a moving bright glossy bar; On the front of the banknote at the edges of unprinted areas there are fine relief line marks; In the bottom part of a field with the latent coloured stripes there is an area with constantly visible coloured stripes (MVC+ effect); the height of figures to the left of the serial number smoothly increases from the left to the right; on the back of the banknote the multi- coloured ornamental stripe has been changed; some elements of the image have magnetic properties; - under UV and IR light the banknote images differ in some aspects from the images of the banknotes of the previous issue. On the front of the note there are two serial numbers that consist of two letters indicating the series followed by seven digits. P.S. I got your sarcastic joke 😊 just wanted to clarify the reason why they are so pecky, and here's why - In Russia we had a lot of counterfeit money made in the 90s-2000s hence, certain countermeasures had to be implemented, it's done in most governments, the $ is the most Forged bill on the planet, had been for a while, which is why the Fed Reserve made a new and improved banknote 😉

@@erikstenviken2652 1. Even is someone do something illegal, it not means you also can violate law. Good advice: never try it in court as own defense line :D 2. You are wrong. Everything is legal: - in UA happened coup (funny fact: de jure it means that country gone and non exist anymore, it need to redeclare self, resign all agreements with whole world). - as result, some territories not recognized violation of constitution and proclaimed own independence. Do you know how UA itself arrived 30 years ago? You can read in their declaration of independence (close to original): “due to coup in capital [Moscow, USSR], for our safety, we declare independence…". Funny fact: 30 years ago it was illegal, illegal by internal laws of USSR, according to UN and according to Helsinki act from 1975 where was declared that borders in Europe can’t be changed (yep, reunion of Germany also violate Helsinki act). Okey, it is past.. but nowadays, according to court of UN and new law which West forced whole world to accept 20 years ago, now "any territory have right for self determination and independence without asking permission or opinion of rest parts of own ex-country". So, arrived new countries. They were attacked by UA and this is already illegal and crime. This countries asked Russia for help and it according to 51 paragraph of UN (right for self/collective defense) came on help. So, it is not Russia started anything, but UA. Russia in this situation, de jure, is defender who protected victims. Additionally: - existed so-called "Minsk agreement" which was confirmed by UN as obligatory for UA (issued special resolution). UA publicly rejected agreement. Moreover, Merkel and Hollande also said, that both used this agreement only to trick everyone, gain time and give weapons to UA (so, they prepared UA as future aggressor, it is international crime). This is direction violation and put both countries in state of international criminals (violation of obligatory resolution and giving weapons). While Russia as one of guaranteer of this agreement have right to use force. - when coup only started, de jure president of UA officially asked Russian for military help. De jure, this request still is actual and legal. - UA officially declared WW2 criminals, prohibited organizations, as own state heroes. This is violation of Nurnberg process, put country in illegal criminal status (funny fact: this is correct for several EU countries also, who did the same). And obligatory of anyone to stop such state. So, as you see, there are 4 juridical reason by which Russia did everything right and according to law. While West (majority, not all) - did whole bunch of violations. Actually looks like they fully canceled any laws for self, so lot they violated already. And that’s why Russia declared that will be new Nurnberg process 2.0 (actually process already going for over year, dozens people already got life sentences).

Video is correct only about transfers with West. With rest countries Russia use own alternative to SWIFT (similar alternatives also developed China and India). To systems which use Russia, China and India already connected several thousands of banks in over 110 countries of world. Now in development some common BRICS system which will be even faster and cheaper (far more cheaper than SWIFT). It is possibly to transfer money in/out Russia to most of those countries without troubles by direct transfers from any bank, it take just few seconds.

I'm at EU citizen who crossed land border from Estonia to Russia last month. The Estonian custom guy asked me: "How much money you carry with you"? I responded immediately :"1000€ cash". He let me through at once without any additional hassle . To be honest, the custom guy did not ask me what citizenship I hold. He had a bright smile and wonderful day, maybe that played the part . Crypto in my opinion is not reliable way to transfer money. My biggest problem is that Google Pay doesn't work anymore on my phone after tried to tap my phone into Russian terminal, and since I left Russia,Google Pay doesn't work anymore. Russians can easily bypass Western sanctions by opening bank accounts in Armenia ,Belarus,Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan Serbia or other non-sanctioned country and use their money anywhere in the world as they please as they used to so far. My two cents.
@АндрейНикитенко-ф4с11 күн бұрын
In Russia, you had to switch the NFC chip settings in your phone to SberPay and you could pay by touching your phone instead of a Sberbank card. Also T-bank. When you return to the West, you just need to return GooglePay in the settings. In addition, in Russia there is a state СБП (Fast Payment System) its support is mandatory for all Russian banks and is available in bank applications for phones. It allows you to carry out any transactions only by a Russian phone number, provided that the recipient has an account in a Russian bank. And it allows you to pay for purchases in a store by NFC or by QR code, of course.

Union Pay is massive in China too. When Trump starts putting tarrifs on Chinese products, all these American companies will lose billions in counter tarrifs by the Chinese. China does not have much to lose in the grand scheme of things because they will just export tarrif feee to other countries in the growing global south. But the established US companies in China will lose hundreds of billions in market value. Apple, McDonald's, Starbucks, Intel, Nvidia, Nike, General Motors and so many more. Germany is already seeing this with their car brands, sales have dropped massively in China, the market where they made over 50% of their profits. The Americans must realise that if you keep demonizing the Chinese, they will eventually just stop buying your products and support their own companies. The US is literally driving Chinese nationalism and the only people it is going to hurt are themselves. I would be really cautious of investing in these American companies, because the chances are that they are going to collapse.

I went to Russia in May. It was very annoying not being able to use cards and booking accommodation and buying one of the flights (the other airline didn't fly every day) required the help of our Russian colleague's grandfather. The way to exchange rubles freely and easily is by exchanging them outside of Russia first. I was living in Armenia, so that was pretty easy to do. I didn't have to exchange anything during my stay there, and I exchanged the remaining rubles back when I returned to Armenia. Belarus (visited in July) is another surprisingly workable option. Cards work there, although not always and not everywhere. And of course you can exchange rubles there freely and easily. And no further checks from Belarus to Russia as they are both parts of a Union State. But don't travel to Belarus from the EU by land. You will spend 13 hours on the bus when it's really a 2-hour journey. Similarly, Transistria (visited in April) had no issues exchanging currency, although you can't use cards there. You can exchange easily in Transistria or in Moldova proper. It was travelling to Iran that was truly irritating (also in May). You have to have your VPNs up and running before you enter it - even the hotel staff sending me their VPNs didn't work for me. I had to set them up outside first. The Iranian currency is very confusing with 2 names, and you get a big chunk of paper that really is largely worthless. And for the sake of a balanced report: I also went to Ukraine (Odesa) in June. It was very nice and you can use your cards everywhere. They don't have power for much of the day, but businesses all use generators so cards are still accepted. You do need to be a little fearless like me because beyond the constant air sirens day and night, you do hear the anti-missile/drone systems working (I thought it was a fighter jet the first time I heard it), and I heard and saw gunfights and fire off the coast on 2 boats as I was swimming in the Black Sea (lots of people).

12:50 . The reason is simply because they want to make it as difficult as possible for ordinary people to travel to Russia and contribute to the Russia economy. However, coming from the EU you can still legally bring with you enough euros to cover your basic needs, hotel, restaurant, transportation and other basic expenses. The real problem is that it is not clearly stated what is the minimum legal amount of cash you can bring with you and this is left to the single customs officer's discretion. In Estonia they are quite strict, so you need to be very careful, as the confiscated money will not be returned. If you are caught with cash hidden somewhere, then it is a crime and you can be in real trouble.

That’s great. Foreigners should have done their homework before traveling to Russia.

When we came to USA 30+ years ago, we could not open credit card even though my husband started working and we had bank account with money on it. IKEA refused us credit card even though we will buy a furniture from it for a year.

SberBank is not "largest state-owned bank". It is not owned, state have just share of 50% + 1. It is far away from ownership (owner need to have 3/4 share in commercial structure). State have banks which it 100% owns.
@My_Old_YT_Account23 күн бұрын
Over 50% means nobody can do anything against your interests, even if the rest of share holders vote against, you're still the majority
@personperson288423 күн бұрын
Yeah, but it's kinda state bank anyway. Sber has Soviet origin and owns about 60% of banking market inside Russia. Market analysts say that in order to control the market to your advantage, you need to have 20% of the market. But I don't feel like it's a problem, we have bunch of other banks still, some of them way better than Sber.
@peterwilliams215220 күн бұрын

The Market will always dictate the behavior of people - Not the Government, which could only try to influence with bureaucracy
