Software engineer here, decade + experience working in big tech. Here's a couple of points to help you sift through the lies: 1. AI has nothing to do with this. Or most issues. 2. There is no shortage of engineers in the US. There is a massive surplus. Computer Science is one of the most popular majors and all tech companies are extremely selective with their hiring because they have hundreds of candidates to filter down for each opening they have. 3. There is no issue with the level talent in the US. There is a reason why companies haven't outsourced all of the jobs over to other countries yet, and it's not because our government is doing a damn thing about it. This all comes down to companies wanting to maintain a massive surplus of talent so that they don't have to raise wages across the board and engage in bidding wars with each other for top talent. This is all hillarious coming from musk especially, because his companies have terrible pay, not even taking to account the awful work culture they have. If he has any problem hiring people at tesla or x, it's because he pays them hundreds of thousands less than other companies do. Anyway thanks for speaking up for this issue and calling out the grifters in this movement. It's so sick to see how many right-wing commentators and politicians have absolutely 0 principles.

Musk just tweeted it's both necessary and easy to fix H-1B - raise financial threshold and set annual maintenance cost for H-1Bs so they become more expensive than domestic labor. Scott Adams just tweeted this is fantastic - the whole issue got aired, openly and passionately discussed and compromised on by all sides, in a week or so. Steve Turley agrees and says the best thing is this was all done transparently and online, entirely without any input from the legacy media, who were rendered impotent spectators on the sidelines. Adams and Turley are right, in my view.

I really wish this is a matter that is purely settled, the issue I have now is how both Elon and Vivek exposed their real thoughts of us and it’s ugly. This has made me question if we can trust them if they think of us so lowly after all the support we gave them. Would have been better if this proposal came first, but no it was demeaning our culture, calling us lazy, not intelligent enough, and we don’t have enough skills to fill in the jobs. Down to accusing us of being woke right, propping up the left to stick that label onto us after the years of abuse we’ve gotten from that ideology. And of course down to the race card. Typical. They are no better than the left, actually the left at least were honest coming up to the election. So I deem them more cowards at this point.

Not settled. You can't think America is a sports team, and has foundational errors in its culture, and get away with it. Immigration has been the Crack coke of politicians for the past 60 years, if you think suddenly the system won't be abused, that is beyond naive.

I do agree with Vivek that our culture needs massive overhauling in academics and we idolize the wrong things as our priorities are warped, however that does not mean we must import replacements. If India is so brilliant then how come their technology pales in comparison to ours and their overall sanitation is 3rd world in status? Why is it we lead the world in space and ocean exploration? Although our universities have become a trash heap, they are still the most elite on the global stage and the majority of the world's top scientists are Americans, so there is that.
@neverstop10810 күн бұрын
You do know that a lot of what is achieved in US is because of immigrants, right? And coming to India, India gained independence only 75 years ago and were left with lot of problems by the British - the loot, the improper partition, killing literacy, creating religious rifts etc. Still India is doing a lot better what people expected us to do. Even now US doesn't leave a chance to either stunt our development or backstab us by supporting our enemies from behind.
@PurpleMusicProductions9 күн бұрын
Yes some of Americas achievements have been inspired or advanced with the help of immigrants as Albert Einstein comes to mind, however EVERY advanced civilization progresses through the ages with trade, internal uplift and natural migration, however Indians did not help us win the space race and advance the microchip, sorry dude. Also, blaming the white man is a old tired excuse which carries zero weight. Every nation or people have been brutalized to some degree in history however that is no excuse for today. Japan had two atomic bombs dropped on then but where are they now? Germany lost both World Wars yet has one of the most reboust economies in the world. Saudi Arabia has been meddled with by most former colonial powers yet are a major player on the world stage. Blaming others is about as ridiculous as blaming the current state of Great Britain due to the enslavement and fall of the Roman Empire. Again America's fate does and will not depend on importing Indians or any other groups. If those groups were so great on a massive scale their economies and societies would be reflective of such.

On the narrative of "talent shortage" by big techs (with the manpower forecasts by these firms to the Feds), the Trump admin should check and challenge these shortfalls and get them to hire Americans that meet their min job reqts, failing which they should charge in court for lieing to govt on falsified labour shortage. I bet these firms' HR managers will revise the forecast numbers frantically.

They should have just let Musk flame out on his own . Now Trump is a prideful man and will think that he has to show Bannon, Loomer et al who is boss. Everyone loses . What a distraction with much bigger fish to fry. Looks like Bannon wants to 'burn the MAGA house down' if he does not get his way, and he can't unless he wants to Politically wound trump and publicly undermine his authority

The freaking nerve Elon has to be obsessed with why the population is declining yet doesn’t have the brains to compute that it correlates with the standard of living! You can raise a big family working 80 hours a week! You’re lucky to even be able to live, we’re a country not a site for being a revolving factory! He should know better cause this is why three critical Asian countries that have those extreme hours, China, South Korea, and Japan are in a major population collapse. Never want to hear him complain about population decline, ever. We want to FIX our country, not become Asia, we love Asia but we are not Asia, we are AMERICANS. We have the talent, the skills, the brains, and what these elites hate is how we actually just want to be paid for it. Essentially they want to bring back slavery.

Our culture also enjoys sports and other activities and some believe in academics 24/7. My daughter had attended a competitive high school with mostly Chinese and Korean kids, most 1st gen. She came home feeling disappointed in a grade she'd just received. (It was a 92 or 93). I was confused and said that it was an A and I asked why didn't she feel happy and proud. She told me that it was an "Asian A". I told her that she isn't Asian. She's American. I explained that they additionally take weekend enrichment classes all year long. We play sports and do other things on weekends. Different cultures. Hopefully, the pressure was lessoned.
