In his temple bus, parked outside the 2015 Q St. Washington D.C. temple, sometime in 1972 or 73, my wife (Bhagyavati devi dasi) and I attended alone, a special mangal artike in his bus. About ten minutes into his intimate and beautiful kirtan, my wife and I both witnessed his Lord Damodar Deity, with a large golden tear coming from the Deity's face, responding to the pure love in the voice of Visnujana Swami. He was singing the Sri Guruastakam prayers when this happened.

There is a true and pure sincerity in the way visnujana swami sang. There are many ‘people’ who sing hare krsna and other devotional songs, but it’s rare to really to find a person who sings with such purity, exactly the way Srila Prabhupada sang. There is a lot of love in visnujana’s voice. I can feel it. Pure bliss. Jai 🙏

Found memories. I got to travel with him on the Radha Damodhar bus party back in 1974. I travelled in Florida and Georgia from what I can remember. I was only 11 years old. All us Gurukula kids loved him. He would love to give us nice sweets like Gulab Jamuns.

I met Vishnujana when I was living as a brahmachari in the LA temple in 1970. I went out on sankirtan with him every day for several months. I was there when Prabhupada gave him sannyasa, along with Brahmananda and his brother Gargamuni. We would go out in the morning for kirtan, come back to the temple for lunch and then went back out for sankirtan until around 5 or 6 PM. When we got back, after the evening Aratik, Vishnujana would always give the Bhagavad Gita class. He slept very little, maybe 4 hours or less every day. I tried to keep up with his schedule, taking rest at 10:00 PM and then up at 2:00 AM to do japa in the temple. Mostly it was just myself and Vishnujana in the temple at those early hours, and I had to give it up after only a couple weeks of false renunciation. Some times he would use that time to compose his beautiful tunes on the harmonium. I would just sit there transfixed in his blissful aura. Vishnujana never failed to get up early, and as far as I know, he was up at 2:00 AM every day and going all day long on sankirtan. Prabhupada was living in the LA temple at the time, but often Vishnujana would lead the Mangala Aratik, while Prabhupada sat on his Vyasasana. When Vishnujana left LA, after taking Sannyasa, it was like someone pulled the plug out of the Sankirtan and even though Prabhupada was still there, the light at the temple burned less bright in his absence-I don't know how we all managed to survive the feelings of separation. I left LA in Sept 1970 and traveled with Karandar, Narada Muni and Locan das and his wife to open up the Portland temple. Narada Muni, who was a close friend of Vishnujana, told me that Vishnujana had confided in him that he had seen Supersoul. I believed it and still do to this day as he was a saintly person. We all knew Vishnujana was a gift from Krishna and a very old soul on the path of Bhakti. His suicide affected me in a way I can hardly describe, so I won't make any attempts here to tell you how it devastated me personally for many years.

When I was the head pujari at the San Francisco temple on Valencia Street in 1974 Vishnujana Swami and the bus with Radha Damodar used to come visit us frequently. He would clear a space on the altar and with his own hands carry the deities and place them on the altar. Then in the morning he would lead a totally ecstatic mangal arati and then give class. I decided that I had to join his party, so I received "indirect" permission lest he might be accused of stealing a devotee. The day after he left, I packed some belongings and sneaked out of the temple before mangal arati. Nalini Kanta prabhu drove me to the airport where I flew to Isla Vista and sought out where he was parked. During the trip during the morning, I developed a fever and was feeling unwell. When I arrived at the bus, Maharaj came out and greeted me with a big smile. He looked at me and how I was suffering due to fever, he said: "Makhana-taskara, Lord Jagannath is punishing you for having left His service." I knew immediately that I shouldn't have left the service of Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda and Lord Jagannath. When we arrived in San Diego, I took Maharaja's permission to return to the Valencia Street temple. I also recall feeling enveloped by the spiritual world when we stepped into the bus, the doors closed, and Vishnujana began playing "Sri-rupa-manjari-pada, sei mora sampada Sei mora bhajana-pujana Sei mora prana-dhana, sei mora abharana Sei mora jivanera jivana"

Thank you Makhana prabhu for sharing your nice pastime...I remember in 1974 in Calcutta temple when Vishnu Jana arrived after his yatra doing kirtan in every village as he floated down the Ganges river...when he arrived i drove him around town helping taking care of his needs and shopping ...when we got back to Albert road he started playing harmonium and doing the most potent kirtan and bhajans...the crowds soon fillied up the temple and the stairs stretching into the street as he kept doing the most amazing Hari Nam ...peoples eyes started pouring in tears and we chanted for what seemed like hours...then Srila Prabhupada arrived and smiled and danced so beautifully ....a great fortune i had to have been there. xxxooo

I met Vishnujana Swami in Vrindavan, in 1971. Later when I joined, whenever the Radha-Damodara TSKP came to town, no matter where, or what temple: DC, Baltimore, and Atlanta. I couldn't help but leave, "out the back door". Y.K. the deal. They started saying I was like a "yo-yo devotee", in and out of the temple. I just couldn't help myself. I had to go follow the nectar, "like a honeybee". Many miles I spent and went with Sri Sri Radha-Damodara & VJ Swami. Please excuse any offenses, that I might have made in the process. Bosnians Maharaja was a kind very regal vaisnava gentleman We used to go on japa walks in 1973 I was 17 years old I observed him perform Bhakti yoga 24 hours a day His life was fixed determined performing sadhana going out on SanKirtana and Kirtanas and lecturing in the temple and to college students Maharaja brought his deities Sri Sri Radha Damodara to college campuses and worshipped them by chanting holy names with her d great India musical band This attracted a large crowd of college students who would then listen to his lectures and meditate on Sri Sri Radha Damodara with rapt attention I used to pray to Sri Sri Radha Damodara for their mercy Vishnujana Swami was tall and he had a summer tan His upper arm were huge like the movie star The Rock One afternoon in Philadelphia Temple four beautiful tall young ladies knocked on the door of the Bus Temple of Radha Damodara Maharaja answered the door The ladies said Swami we have come to visit you Maharaja told the ladies thank you but the temple was closed but if they Gould please return in two hours at 7pm the temple was going to have a festival and please return to the temple to participate

In 1976, during the Gaura Purnima festival in India, Vishnujana Swami disappeared. It is commonly believed that he chose to leave his body at the confluence of several sacred rivers at the Ganges. During a walk some days earlier it is believed he had heard a general statement by Prabhupada concerning the duty of a sannyasi which could have led to him taking his own life, but as Vishnujana is not recorded to have disclosed his thoughts to anyone before disappearing it is not known for certain.

Vishnujan Maharaj lives in our heart, he was too sincere, selfless & pure soul to be around with the upcoming devotees of the movement at that time. He gave his everything - family, mind, body & soul for the pleasure of Krsna & Guru & for all the upcoming devotees. Everyone remembers Vishnujan Maharaj giving love, care & support to everyone selflessly & everyone remembers the hurt inflicted upon his heart by false accusations of pseudo devotees, and the other way round never happened. Only Krsna knows what happened to him, in whatever he would have done, he would have done to get closer to Krsna more, even if it meant ending his body. Whom to blame? No one but the unfortunate material existence and misfortune of rest of us to lose him. Krsna would ensure that he gains spiritual advancement & comes to his loving service in Goloka, but our misfortune that we lost his love & association.

Tamal betrayed Srila Prabhupada by claiming Prabhupada ordained Tamal and 10 others to become gurus. All lies. Many say Tamal administered poison to Srila Prabhupada. His violent death kinda confirms his offenses to a pure devotee, n'est ce pas ? Btw, a very close friend of Vishnujana says that Vishnujana confided in him and told him he had a falldown with a woman and wasn't himself at all days prior to his disappearance. It is totally offensive to blame Srila Prabhupad like that. He awarded sanyaas to his disciples so that they can take to krishna consciousness more sseriously and also so that they can do preaching more efficiently. Whether, Vishnujan Maharaj suicided or not, nobody knows it for a fact. Even he had, he would have been delivered by Srila Prabhupad just like how Chota Haridas was delivered by Sriman Mahaprabhu.... Vishnujan Maharaj dedicated his life to the lotus feet of the commander of the Supreme Lord. There is no loss for him. Vishnujan Maharaj was such a sincere servant of Srila Prabhupad, and Sria Prabhupad is of course his ever well wisher, in this life and forever...
