Vishy Anand vs Surya Ganguly | Madras Tiger vs Royal Bengal Tiger

One of the most important members of Anand's team in his World Championship Matches was Surya Sekhar Ganguly. Surya was the second of Anand in all his World Championship Matches that Vishy won. Naturally, it is not easy for both Anand and Ganguly to face each other. When you have such a long working relation, you know the other person quite well!
But it did happen at the Tata Steel Chess Rapid 2018. It was the first time that Surya and Vishy sat opposite each other in a tournament. And it was highly exciting bout between the Madras Tiger and the Royal Bengal Tiger! What's more, it ended decisively! Check out who won the game.

For all those who are asking who won Surya Ganguly won by resignation. How to identify who won If the kings are kept in the middle of the board in black squares it means black won. If the kings are kept in the middle of the board in white squares it means white won . And if the kings are kept in squares of respective colours then it's a draw . Why did Vishy resign? Answer : Look at the last position , Vishy (White) to Move : There is no way he can prevent Qe6 because of the the black bishop guarding e3 (Both rook or queen cannot block) Now once Qe6 is played. King has only one square left : d3 Then we will have Rd1+ and now the King can only move Kc2. Remember our Queen was on e6 and can jump to Qe2+ for a mating attack but to make things simple. Black can simply play Rc1+ after white goes Kc2. And white's queen is gone (Black bishop guards the rook) So this was a completely lost position and rightfully Vishy resigned.

Its because he is in terrible position. Anand could have defended the bishop's influence by moving his rook to e3 but again he would be in the dangerous position by opening the queen's attack when black queen moves to g4..Anand couldn't resist the threat in any possible way...that's why he resigned..

Three things to note if you're not able to understand the result. 1. Observe the position on the board 2. The one who extends his hand first is the one who has resigned. 3. In case of a draw, you'll generally see the players mouthing few words (one players offers draw) and then go for the handshake simultaneously.
