OMG, this is so important. You should teach at the USTA national center and work with juniors as well. These visual skills training is very unique and players of all levels can do this drills to improve and maintain their visual perceptions of balls coming at you on the tennis court

Oh wow! Glad i've stumbled upon your channel. I like the brain training approach and would love to see more drills from you here on youtube! I do understand that you goal is to sell the personal training sessions, but i believe you could do great on youtube as well! Keep on going! Cheers

Glad you are enjoying the videos and they you enjoy seeing the brain drills. I don't do personal training anymore. I work with players via my online program, so obviously a lot of deeper drills are in there. If you haven't grabbed the free program yet, get that because it is a very good start!

Great. but now what about Ball feel on the string bed. Ball feel is also very important initial control of the different strokes
@TennisHacker

To improve feel on shots you have to do 2 things. The first is obviously to practice the shot. Then you have to work on improving eye to hand coordination. Doing both of these things consistently will give better feel, but it takes time.

Nice. If you do them right after your sets in the gym, you can train your visual system in a fatigued state, which is very useful for tennis :-)

My optometrist has my contact lenses set up so one eye sees up close and the other, in the distance. I feel like this would not help with judging a tennis ball speed as they are working independently. What do you think? Your videos are great by the way. Thank you!
@TennisHacker

Sorry for the slow reply, I hadn't seen your comment. From a neurological perspective having different eyes that do different things is very confusing. And as you pointed out, it will make depth perception more challenging. Glad you are enjoying the videos.

It can be game changing. Start small and build up over time like you would for other types of training. Depending where your starting point is, it can take a while to get you system functioning well enough to track balls at high speeds

Nice video. But I have a question. Being not young anymore and still in love with tennis I have difficulty with the second drill. I have contact lenses which enable me to see far but I'm far-sighted and therefore needed much more initial distance to see that pencil letters. Of course, without my lenses I'm short-sighted. What would you recommend? Working without or with the lenses? I have to make a compromise in any case.
@TennisHacker
@TennisHacker 2 жыл бұрын
I like the way you phrased less young 😁 I would just do the drill and not worry about using a letter or the blurriness. It will still train the eye muscles and parts of the brain that control the visual skill. As a general thing, it’s good idea to do vision training with and without correction. There is a lot you can do in this area, so if you would like ti chat shoot me an email - richard@tennishacker.net

Great content! I wear glasses and contacts, should I do these exercises with my vision corrected (I.e., with glasses) or while uncorrected?
@TennisHacker
@TennisHacker 3 жыл бұрын
It’s actually a good idea to train them with and without correction. Glasses present a challenge because the frames encourage lack of eye movement. But if you play wearing glasses, you definitely want to train wearing them. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the video. how often do you suggest to make the training you showed? Even more times a day?
@TennisHacker
@TennisHacker 3 жыл бұрын
If you can't full converge I would work at it 3-5 times per day until you can. 3-10 reps each time is a good target. For general training building to doing these drills for 2 mins each, 5 times per week is a decent amount. But see how your body responds. Some people get very tired from vision training.

Unfortunately it’s normally that easy. Lots of on court practice visualizing the contact point. Plus improving vision and coordination for most people. Timing is the hardest aspect of the game, do if anyone claims they have a simple solution… the aren’t being honest.

How many reps and sets a day? Also love ur content!
@TennisHacker
@TennisHacker 2 жыл бұрын
There is no perfect answer to this because people respond differently to vision training, just like other types of training. So the best plan is to start slowly and build up. Day 1 do 5 reps of each drill and then increase from there. I personally do 2-3 vision training sessions per week, that take from 13-20 mins depending on how fatigued I am (and how much time I've spend on the computer). But at the start even do 5 minutes a few times a week can be really beneficial.

What if I wear glasses to correct double vision? Should I wear my glasses when doing these exercises?
@TennisHacker
@TennisHacker Жыл бұрын
It's hard to give specific advice without knowing more because it depends what the cause of the double vision is. It's best to speak to the person who gave you the glasses.
