@syedabdulahadwasim1692 жыл бұрын
You know what’s so powerful about this scene? It is the sight of suffering in silence - something human beings can universally relate with. Elio is sitting facing the fire (which personifies two things: fire is a symbol of suffering and sitting by the fireside on a cold evening is perceived, I believe universally, as something quite intimate) while his back is facing his home, his family...the world, which continues to operate as if nothing has happened. But in that very instance of apparent normality, Elio is experiencing a moment of ultimate suffering, battling a consciousness of perpetual loss that he must come to terms with and which, paradoxically, he cannot come to terms with without suffering. This simultaneous coexistence of calmness and pain, of silence and screams, of love and loss is what makes this scene truly transcendental and, indeed, one of the finest.

I am so happy the director never added any sounds or music on scenes that progressed throughout the film e.g their first kiss, the station scene. I’ve watched the movie several times and it was always as good as the first time. But i can tell you reading the novel and the sequel after watching the movie is something else. The novel is so well written that it makes you feel like you get in the inside of Elio and live his experience while you’re laying at home. The sequel is called ‘Find me’ and it’s also so good cause it tells you about the real ending and not the ending of the movie. I totally recommend reading both.

What I see in Elio's eyes is that he realized when Oliver told him he's getting married, that he had made the wrong choice which would haunt them forever. He didn't choose to be with Elio. And in the sequel we find out that in all the years they've been apart, they had always wanted each other. But because of this moment and this choice made years and years before, their paths had been separated forever.

I LOVE the movie and one of the best scenes worth mentioning was his conversation with his father. I just felt how somehow miserable his father was and how lucky he is to have him as a father. It was very emotional. I can only hope all parents are that supportive. Not in my case. 20th century has past but I still I can't go full on being gay.

Te escribo a ti. Escuchando tus pensamientos, leyendo tus miradas. No puedo escapar.
