I have to comment here to share: this series was shown to my church years ago, when I was very very young. This message and the dramatizations portrayed here were imprinted deeply to my mind, particularly of martyrs at 19:40. I was just describing this exact video to my husband last week without any idea of the title or any hope of seeing it again. Wow, how remarkable to come across this from such a long time ago.

"no totalitarian authority, no authoritarian state can tolerate those who have an absolute by which to judge that state and its actions" ... Fast forward 2020 onwards and so the scene is set but will "apathy" amongst Christians today be the catalyst into an even darker world? May Christ have mercy on His Church and through His Spirit wake up those who are asleep in apathy! Great presentation, thank you.

We are... apathy happened in 2016 when the arts and music really became crap. The elite abandoned the intellectual consciousness in 2009. Seeing this actually gave me an advantage to create a response rather celebrate the flow that leads to ruin yet create a flow that leads towards restoration.

Much as want to believe Shaeffer's basic assertion here, I don't know it's fair to say that the Roman democracy "failed" because it lacked a sufficient philosophical base. The Roman Republic lasted several hundred years. How long does a republic have to last before we can consider it "successful"? Our own republic was birthed in a Christian society, but it's really wavering barely 200 years after its founding.
@pamelabartlett6352 Жыл бұрын
Because it is moving away from Christian values.
@Trinity532 Жыл бұрын
I agree I was thinking the same thing. If I may, I believe Sharffer meant they “failed” in aswering the questions all humans & society have asked... Morality, significance , etc. Do the lack of a philosophical base contribute to fall of civilizations? I would say yes it's one of many reasons, but I don't his point about failure is whether nations or empires still exist or not.
@revelation32project95 Жыл бұрын
@@pamelabartlett6352 But that just brings us back to my original point: if you can blame our pending fall on our turning from Christian values, how did the Romans expand and last for 3 times as long as us without ever having the Christian values to begin with?
@mandivmitchell Жыл бұрын
@@revelation32project95 The general trend of history is from slow to fast. Because people and information traveled slower back then, so did history. Now that we have speedier travel and communication, new ideas spread faster, which leads to faster changes is society, which leads to social upheaval happening sooner. Also, Rome had plenty of social upheavals. It went from kingdom to republic to empire.

To Believe means to be persuaded or convinced Jesus is the Christ Christ means Messiah/Savior Jesus Christ is the Son of God He Saves people from Everlasting Death He Died on the Cross, was buried, and Rose again on the third day. He Conquered Death for all Humans, no matter who they are or what they have done or will do. Salvation If you believe that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), The Son of God, and that He gives you eternal life simply for believing in Him, you have eternal life (John 20:31; 1 John 5:1, 10-11). New King James Version John 6:47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him Once Saved Always Saved John 6:37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

No Biblical reference's whatsoever
@Luiz__SilvaАй бұрын
First of all, this is like a history class, not a sermon. We should expect every school teacher would teach their students from a solid Christian worldview. Second, there were several references to biblical truths. To give you one example: around minute 7, he talks about how the lack of a solid foundation for morality ruins a society and how that leads people to look upon false Gods. That's an application of Proverbs 29:16, Matthew 24:12, Romans 1 and other passages. Third, if you think biblical references are necessarily direct chapter and verse quotations, you are just wrong. You know, even the new testament writers, in multiple occasions, referenced old testament passages without explicitly mentioning book, author, or even that it was a quotation. In some contexts, for instance when you are talking to believers who are expected to know their Bibles well, it's completely acceptable mentioning ideas and concepts that are well known without having to exegete the original passage. Also remember chapter and verse divisions are not inspired and definitely not a necessity as long as the truth about the Word of God is proclaimed.
