William Carey is so underrated. He is the one who worked with Raja Ram Mohan Roy to abolish Sati and other cruel social evils. It is a shame that the school history books do not mention his name. As an Indian I'm grateful for William Carey's service in India.

Actually, it's completely unjust. In India, in our school history books, the only vivid mention of abolition of Sati and other reform is credited to Raja Ram Mohan Roy. William Carey is barely mentioned. I did not know about William Carey before say around 2015-16 when I was in India, at the launch of this book: [And God said,]"Let there be India!", by Babu K. Verghese. There the author Mr. Verghese explained in detail the contributions of William Carey on the irregular and neglected languages of the Indian people - those languages that are today modern-day Indian regional or state languages. Indian regional/state languages were orally passed - and William Carey compiled and developed their written grammatical form and connected them with Sanskrit. His work spanned through multiple Indian state/provincial languages. Given his contribution to the modern-day Indian state/provincial languages, it is surprising his mention is absent from everywhere among the great literary scholars of India (in the Indian history textbooks). He was only a shoemaker - used mightily by God. Again, that was not his own ability - but the work of God in him. His gravestone reads: "A WRETCHED POOR AND HELPLESS WORM, IN THY KIND ARMS I FALL".

In d school books they don't mention d contribution of William Carey & other missionaries it is bcoz of jealousy, envy & resentment towards d Lord & his people... They know d truth in their hearts but they don't want to acknowledge it.... The Lord knows and d Lord will reward them. They never served for d applause & acclaim of men. The selfless love of Christ constrained them...

Yes in indian history textbooks they never mention good work of Britishers and Christian missionaries. Britishers and Christian missionaries were God sent people to India.

@@alokrajavat984 I would say that Britishers is not the same as Christian missionaries. The East India Company had banned missionary work, that is why William Carey faced lot of troubles/obstacles from East India Company. I wouldn't say that British rule was good for India or for anywhere else in the world. But, at the same time, God works in mysterious ways. There were some good things that came out of it.

@Divya a European rule was not at all bad for any of these third world countries. Nobody is perfect in world. I am saying that Europeans were no saint. But if you compare them with the natives of these third world countries, Europeans were far more honest and competent. As soon as Europeans left these coutries, they started going back to their tribal habits. For example look at India, every where their is corruption. You can hardly find any person who you can trust. They are materialistic people who have no moral consciousness. British colonisation was a huge improvement on India but it dissipated as they left.
