I visited Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park and Preserve from Anchorage and it easily became my favorite place for bear viewing in Alaska. Today's video walks you through the Brooks Falls Trail from the Brooks Camp Visitor Center to the Brooks Falls and Riffles Platform.
Brooks Falls is known for the brown bears that come every summer to feed on the salmon in the river. You can watch bears fish on live webcams at Brooks Falls.
Brooks Falls is located in Katmai National Park, which is about 290 air miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska. The only way to access this national park is by plane or boat. The nearest community is King Salmon, which is about 5 miles from the park entrance.
Once you reach Brooks Camp, you will have to walk 1.2 miles to get to Brooks Falls from the Visitor Center.
It’s possible to visit Brooks Falls in one day but I recommend staying the night to have at least two days at Brooks Falls. Some people visit in a day and some people stay for a whole week. If you visit during the busiest time, you can expect to be on a waitlist to get onto the Brooks Falls Platform.

Did you win a lottery for the campsite? If not, how far in advance did you need to book? Thanks for sharing!

There's no lottery for the campsite, only the lodge cabins. You need to book the campsite in January when the reservations open. You can read about it in my blog post: andreakuuipoabroad.com/best-way-to-visit-brooks-falls-katmai/ Hope it helps!

Booked to go in mid July (day trip), appreciate the tips and footage. Can’t wait. Will also do Harding ice field hike, our favorite anywhere. 15 years ago was last time hiked so hope we can still do it!

It’s quite an unusual experience because you’re usually not interested in seeing bears so close but here the bears are too busy fishing and are used to people

Enjoyed your video. With the bears coming in and out of camp, how safe is it to camp in a tent ? Is there an electric fence around the tent area ?
@AndreaAdventures
@AndreaAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
There is an electric fence around the campsite! There are storage lockers for food, gas, and gear so that there’s nothing attractive in your tent.

Safe is relative, but yes, the bears are busy feeding on salmon and there are lots of safety measures set in place and rules to follow!

Help me out here. I am trying to go there but... I just talked today (22 June) to Brooks Lodge. They are saying that you have to sign up for a lottery draw for 2024!!! You only have about a 25% chance of being picked. The cabins are around $900.00 a night, every night. The aircraft with pontoons fly's in for $900 each way. So, we are looking at easily a $12,000 trip, coming from Texas. I want to stay several days. Is it possible to stay in King Salmon? How do you get to Brook Falls from King Salmon. How do you get back every night to King Salmon. You are saying that you can't use a tripod on the "pier"????? The problem is I will be using a Nikon 600mm lens that is heavy and cannot really be held to photograph with. I will have about 50lb of photography equipment with me, all in a Pelican case. From my prospective here in Texas, I can't figure out how to make this happen????? I
