Visit Gyumri, Armenia 🇦🇲 - Armenian Medieval City

Hello Friends and Travelers from around the WORLD!
We are going to visit a medieval city of Gyumri here in northwestern Armenia! The city had many names throughout its history, beginning with Kumayri before it was changed to Alexandropol. In 1992, when Armenia gained its independence from Soviet Union, the name Gyumri was chosen.
The city is rich in history, beautiful buildings and architecture that remind you of the city's past, and friendly people! I will be taking you around the city showcasing some of the top attractions to see here in Gyumri as well as few lesser known spots! I hope you're excited to see more of Armenia, let's go!

I loved in, I enjoy a good architecture and the churches and the dark brick really stood out to me. I was surprised to see very few visitors in Gyumri!

Great work, Luke! Seems like a quaint little town. I love those cities that aren't hustle and bustle but still have all the infrastructure needed for a comfortable life. Definitely hope to go back to the Caucasus one day soon. :-)

Gyumri is full of history and I would have enjoyed another day there to do some day trips! You definitely need to come back, visiting Georgia🇬🇪 it makes sense to check out Armenia 🇦🇲 too!

Thanks for the walk in my lovely hometown . Only , could you please double check the information. The city was renamed Leninakan after the death of Vladimir Ilyeech Lenin. It was named Alexandropol after the visit of the Russian Emperor Nickolay the 1st after the Saint Alexandr ( Nickolay 1st wife was Alexandra Feodorovna ) .

Correction: The original name was Kumayri during the ancient Armenian Kingdom (late 5th century BC). During Russian rule,Tsar Nicholas I changed the name to Alexandropol in 1837. Under Soviet rule, the name was changed again to Leninakan in 1924. After the breakup with the USSR, the city was finally named Gyumri in 1992.

I don't remember what day it was, maybe it was just renovated or late? Gyumri is a beautiful city, second biggest city in Armenia but it's such a contrast between it and Yerevan, it feels less busy but still like a big city!
