@@DudyShorts It's not about loving money, they are poor and desperate. One dollar can make a huge difference for a month for them as they are self-employed they have nothing to fall back on like social unemployment benefits. In the west we have the tipping culture expected by service workers..luckily they don't have to ask for it but in most places required as part of the total bill. The problem in Lamu or 3rd world countries is that giving money only encourages the desperate locals to expect money from other tourists, they outright ask or beg for it, disrupting tourists experience, sadly it's just best to ignore them for their own good

@@Benhepswell, honestly, it will do completely no difference in the long term… if the people do not know how to properly use or invest the money, they will just spend it on something silly… i have seen that a lot..😢 and only it will create a habbit of laziness like on some touristy destinations where drivers just hang around all days waiting for the one desperate annoyed tourist who will pay 10x more instead of doing a proper business… bad for all… 😢

@@dudy .. just like the homeless on the streets here in Europe, you'll still see them the next day. But i would not generalise, i'm pretty sure the locals have someone like a role model to look up to..maybe someone who runs their own shop, a restaurant, a fancy hotel, a fishing business, whose children go to the best school, has a TV, a car, a fancy house, has many more boats etc. i don't think they lack imagination, but the level of ambition or determination declines over time the longer they experience hardship and get used to easy money from tourists just like you said

@@Benhepsthey probably have roles.. though i have many times heard people admiring thieves as their roles models… it is the cause of lack of opportunities… even in my country it was the same some 3 decades ago… but now everything has changed

@@Khalid-mf3iutrue.. with tour guides its often difficult… many are trying to entertain me and I try to explain them that I am there not for my own fun, but for the fun of my subscribers 😅
