I'm putting this separately from my other post because it's unrelated. Don't Take The Picadilly To Heathrow! If you're just carrying a small backpack, then it's fine but don't load your luggage onto the tube. Picadilly is a VERY busy line and hauling 4 huge suitcases onto the train - esp. if you have an early flight, you'll be on the tube during rush hour - is cumbersome. Put a taxi or Express ticket into your trip expenses. You'll thank yourself, Londoners will thank you. Take my advice with a grain of salt, as just another traveler but I did it once with just one suitcase and it was brutal.

Thanks Mark for commenting on the traffic safety rules as I found myself almost getting clipped by a black cab when I looked the wrong way :-). All in all had a great time and would go back tomorrow. 'Big Ben' is covered in scaffolding and will only ring on NYE and Remembrance Day for a few years. Also, I write about the London Pass a lot on my blog because it's a great way to save money on attractions. Regarding food, as a foodie traveller, I think the culinary scene is immense here and just published a video on Bray- England's food capital. Regarding the Tube- just make sure you pay attention to strike information. They've been happening much more often the past few years. Uber is far more affordable. I use it all the time- even on my trip to Windsor over the weekend. And I agree- Madame Tussaud's is overrated, but probably you're only 'real' way to see the Queen" 😉☀️🇬🇧

More zones=more money, A LOT more, you cannot buy a 1 or 2 zone card economically ie for it to be useful unless you live inside a tube/subway zone and are going to travel only 1 or 2 zones each direction to your place of work/employment, if you plan to travel round London as a tourist/visitor or go between for instance museums and parks and music venues on different sides of the city, obviously miles apart, you must go through sometimes up to 6 zones each way on a single route/journey,the zone card will not be valid and you will get charged a lot more or possibly charged fees and penalties. In some cases your route can enter a zone and leave it 200 meters later into another zone and you'll get charged for the extra zone. The busses are the cheapest way to travel round but take a very long time to get from a to b and you need to change busses at different stops, be aware that the whole bus system is managed by a control centre and if the bus you are travelling on is re tasked ie diverted to take over from a broken down bus on a different busier route or one perceived as more crucial, you will need to notice that the bus Is deviating from the direction/route that it is supposed to be taking, sometimes an audio announcement plays on the bus to tell you to get off at the next stop and find an alternative way to continue your journey, other times this does not happen and the bus can take a different turn and end up taking you up to 10 miles in the wrong direction, if this happens you'll need to look out for or go on google maps and wait until the nearest subway/underground station is coming up, get off at the bus stop closest to it and walk to the underground to use the train for the rest of your route or to another connecting bus route/bus stop/bus station. Frequently when the underground trains go offline for repairs or a breakdown or tube workers strike, the busses all of a sudden get re tasked/rerouted and diverted, so you have to keep your wits about you and be ready to get off and find another way to travel onwards, don't rely on a taxi or uber for any kind of distance unless you are quite happy to part with £100/$130 as the traffic can be horrendous at morning and evening rush hours.. (edited due to autocorrect changing random words)
@DanielsPolitics12 жыл бұрын

The easy way to know which of London's two major airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) you are flying into is to know which airline you are flying with, if it's British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines or Air Canada you will be flying into Heathrow whereas if you are flying in with Tui, Thomas Cook, Norwegian or Wow Air you will likely be flying into Gatwick

With the Oyster the only places you have to tap in and out is the tube network Docklands Light Railway and with that there are in some cases no actual barriers but the card readers are at the bottom of the stairs or the top so keep an eye out for them. The overland trains and suburban railway services. The main thing that you have to look out for is the barriers being open especially when you're exiting any other rail services because if you don't tap out your will be charged for the hole days travel on the network. But you can be reimbursed but you'll have to phone TFL and explain the situation to them and they'll give you a refund on your Oyster card but that means you'll have to find a local tube station to be reimbursed. If this does happen to you the TFL customer service phone number is on the back of the card. As for London buses you do not need to be tap out but make sure you tap on because if the bus inspectors get on and check your card you could get yourself and £80 fine and they may even confiscate Oyster card on the spot. So make sure you tap into the buses.

What’s the best time of the year to visit as far as weather goes (not cold or too hot)? Also, do they have Persian food in London? 😊

September or March through May

They have every kind of food there. Just google it, I can't recommend any restaurant because I grab sandwiches at Tesco but I don't think there's a cuisine you can't get in London.

It's pronounced 'tems' not 'tames', but overall a fun and interesting video. Especially from the perspective of a Londoner, I've always wondered what tourists really think of the city

That's the tower at the other end of the Houses of Parliament. You can see the Elizabeth tower in the distance with the scaffolding.

The Heathrow and Gatwick Express are both scams. If coming from Gatwick use the regular local Southern Train or if coming from Heathrow use the TFL rail train or the Tube.
@nicolelollipops82685 жыл бұрын
Stephen Hyland yes that was 20 pounds for one trip . I was shocked
@Mathemagical555 жыл бұрын
They're not "scams" but there are certainly cheaper options.

I recommend taking the boat across the thames across town, its like 4 pounds and you can see a ton. Also do a pub crawl or check out a rugby or soccer match at a pub.

Be careful what pub you choose in London for a football match.

Spot on. I recommend watching a Millwall match in a pub in Bermondsey. Make sure you loudly call it "soccer" as well.

I love London! So many wonderful museums, and things to do. Cabs are great, and even the newer cabs can fit in wheelchairs. Would also suggest spending time with a guide. The legit guides just add to your trip. Oh make sure to set up a pin for your credit card as often you need a pin when buying something. Oh pack a windbreaker as it can get cool anytime of the year. Don't forget to see the Museum of London as its really cool.

People need to know London is expensive very expensive . And iam a local . Before getting on a plane to Heathrow or Gatwick. Its imperative you do and in depth research about London and travelling around the uk from transport , hotels and food booze ect . Book early and I mean months ahead . So travel for example from London to Glasgow by train look at the virgin rail site they operate from Euston station to the likes of the North of england Manchester , liverpool & Glasgow ect . And LNER east coast from kings cross also serves the north of England ie York Newcastle Edinburgh to Inverness ect . Great western railways operate into paddington and they serve Wales, Bristol and penzance areas also Heathrow Express. Planes low cost generally Easyjet or Ryanair from london for scotland and the north and Ireland. Best airport for me would be luton airport about 20 mins from london st pancras. Stansted is ok from liverpool street station about 25min or less . Gatwick is some distance but lots of flights low cost British carriers serving the same areas . Heathrow has British airways flights but you could pay slightly more for a flight up north. Finally bus national express is our form of American greyhound buses Serve the majority of the uk plus you hopefully get some great views of our beautiful country . All of these carriers have web sites. So research and research always ask if your not sure loads of cheap travel but book early . Have a great trip .
