When I was in Strasbourg in late September 2013, I found that Flammkuchen is much cheaper than the Choucroute. A 24 hour ticket for the trams/busses is cheap. The Homme de Fer near the rail station is something not to miss, nor is La Petite France.

I agree Strasbourg is wonderful. Alsace is one of the most beautiful areas in France. The food is always good. I've traveled to the Alsace region of France hundreds of times and it I've enjoyed every visit. There are several cities and towns that I like; a few are Colmar, Ribeauville, St. Odie, Mulhouse, Obernai, Kaysersberg. If you want fine dining go to the Auberge de lill in Illhaeusern, you will not be disappointed. The Auberge is a beautiful restaurant and hotel. Alsace never disappoints. I'm so homesick for Europe.

Only place on my Rhine River cruise I was panhandled. A woman walks up to me and asks me if I speak English. I nod. Then she hands me a note explaining how she is a single mother without a job, no money, etc. So technically she wasn't asking me for money- just handing me a piece of paper with her sad story printed on it. i gave the paper back to her and moved on.

This city is amazing. You can take a tram to Germany in 15 minutes. There's a lot of towns in Germany near by plus all of the towns in Alsace are breathtaking. Castles and vineyards everywhere. Things are not super expensive at all and parts of Strasbourg can be sketchy but those are far away, take time to explore the city, and find those places out of the tourist area it's worth it 100% the people are very nice too! Definitely check out Ribeauville and Colmar! Lived in Strasbourg for three months!

Went there for Christmas Market last year. Drove from Mainz to a small town called Appenweier on the TER (SNCF Transport Express Regional) line to Strasbourg from Offenburg. Free parking and the round trip ticket was cheap.

I really enjoy your enthusiasm, and I completely agree with your likes, dislikes, and top ten features. Strasbourg is my favorite city on the whole planet (!) so thanks for loving Strasbourg so energetically. I hope your videos encourage more people to discover and fall in love with Strasbourg. I also agree with other comments about the wealth Alsace outside of Strasbourg, too.

No there are no extra for Americans. Prices are the same for everybody, they are "TTC" which means "taxes included" and are normally visible from the outside (check on a "carte" in the street or a paper on a window)

LOL!! Marc, thanks for posting your Strasbourg-video! If anyone of you like to spent some time here and you want a cheap accomodation try to get a Hotel in Kehl, Germany Take the bus or a taxi to Strasbourgs city-center. From Kehl it's only a 10 minute drive. For cheaper food and drinks visit the Krutenau, the students quartier with lots of bars and Restos. If you like to see how beautiful Strasbourg is, see my according video. Thank you and au revoir!

Alsacian is a Germanic dialect and does not sound like French at al where did you hear a mix of German and French? I live here, by the way. And, Alsace is one of the most beautiful parts of France, so it's well worth spending a few days in the region, not only for the sake of Strasbourg.
@Alsacien

I was born and live in Alsace. You're correct when you say that Alsatian doesn't sound remotely like French, however people who speak the dialect casually use a lot of French words and might switch to French for an entire sentence without really thinking about it. My parents who were born in the 1950s still think in Alsatian for the most part, but I and nearly all of the people born in the 1980s and later don't speak the dialect (although I understand it well enough).

Hmm as a Frenchmen it's difficult to say Lisa. But for most foreigners, when they talk about France they talk in fact about Paris so maybe Paris is the best representation of France.

The prices in Strasbourg for a beer is 3-4 euros, not 6, it's not Paris, is not that expansive for food and drinks

Medieval, not midieval. Medi-, meaning "middle", and ev-, meaning "age", medieval literally means "of the Middle Ages"

No Lisa, Paris is not the best representation of France, it's too touristic ! Try Lyon, the capital of the gastronomy. And if you have enough time, take a train to Chambery and go walking on the mountains. It's less touristic, cheaper and more beautiful !
