Came here from a tumblr post that talked about River Cane. Recently learned that bison ate the stuff. It’s really cool!

Just recently learned about River Cane, and got recommended this video (Probably from the same post the other commenter mentioned.) It's nice to see there are people who care about this little known plant.

I lived in upper east tn for 18 years and had no idea honeysuckle was so damaging to the ecosystem. It's fascinating to learn more about river cane--I've read the term "cane brake" lots of times but had no idea to what it referred!

Ohhh yeah at one time Ky was full of it Simon Kenton talked about crossing through miles of it along the rivers Farmers hated it because once it’s established it’s a bitch to remove because of its dense carpet like root systems I’ve had a lot of good fortune with it along the Licking river here in Northern Kentucky for erosion control it’s great and if the beavers chew it down to the nub it comes right back unlike the swamp oaks and other trees in the area Thx for checking out my video glad you guys found it . I love me some river cane I’m happy you do to .!!😉

Have beautiful standa of river cane I am managing for my landlord, she was about to pay to have it chemically and physically removed, which would have made her entire peninsula susceptible to the annual flooding that occurs in the creek that surrounds her place. I love it. It is plastic. Whatever you need, you can make it!! Shelving, wind-breaks, trellising... I could type for hours! Found a spot where it flowered, died, and now new stands are popping up in the surrounding area... Gonna dig some up for myself. Cheers!

America does have a native honeysuckle called coral honeysuckle. The invasive one is Japanese, I believe. I tear it up whenever possible!

Yes you are correct and yes it’s best to get rid of it before it has a chance to get established , when it’s small.older it then it starts producing berries that will spread far and wide.
