For clarification when he’s talking about his niece at 14:06 and you guys translate it as “ I had a sister who was killed and this is my niece she had my eyes”..what he meant to say was that his sister got killed and his niece became his everything..he grew this unconditional love for her possibly due to his sister getting murdered..sort of like a daughter to him…it’s like a term of deep endearment..for example if referring to a daughter or a niece or a little girl who you’ve come to adore and love as a daughter they can say “yo amo a esa Niñita ella sabe que es Mis ojos” …if you literally translate that ,it wouldn’t make much sense in English .but in Spanish it’s referred to as a pure parental love and affection
@renelopez8227

I sincerely cannot thank you enough for how you try to speak Spanish. It's amazing to see and trust me when I say that it goes a long way with us when you try to communicate in our language. Like in any part of the world. If you want to speak to someones heart you have to use their mother tongue. Good stuff Tommy G. EDIT: Like brother, it is extremely humbling for you to stumble your Spanish but that's the beauty of it. Everyone stumbles, but we keep practicing and we learn it. It's super cool to see you place yourself in a position like that where you're the one not fluent in the language. Very well done Tommy.

Mexicans are way too proud of a language that was forced on their indigenous ancestors. In this way, I respect Black Americans far more; they don't view their language as anything more than useful. They don't romanticize it. Edit: Except for the N-word. That's stupid for sure, but none of them are idolizing English.

Grew up in San Diego and Tijuana was always very safe, but after 9/11 the businesses went south due to no visitors. I feel like thats when stuff began. I also will say, I have been to mexico over one thousand times it feels like and only was involved in one shooting where i was at the wrong place-wrong time( i was okay physically), but the other 5 had to do with sketchy cops. But i agree with the girl, go with a friend from there, but honestly, the city looks out for you-they want your business! it feels safe when i am there, maybe because i have been going there for years...great journalism man-absolutely amazing

I was born and raised in San Diego as well, and Tijuana aint ever been safe😂, I can remember taking a Taxi to the club and cops would pull the Taxi over for no reason and you would have to give the police money otherwise they threaten taking you to jail. Other times as your walking back across the border police would stop us and shake us down for no reason. Definitely learned not to look like you have money otherwise it makes you a target to get finessed! And driving in is another situation in itself, they see those US plates you definitely gettin pulled over for some BS, we got pulled over one time and the cop said we ran a stop sign which we didn't and had to give them money otherwise they were going to impound the car and take us to jail. Other than that still love the culture and food!😂

This is the Tommy McGee style I fell in love with years ago! This is raw, talented journalism, amazing editing, storytelling, and most of all, taking risks in conflict areas to tell a powerful story. Keep up the amazing work, Tommy! 👏👏👏 May I also remind you of the fact that our Native American population in our motherland, the Continent of America before the European Colonizers arrived, was around 15 millions, while the European population in their motherland, the Continent of Europe was around 25 millions. Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering TWO BILLION! A shockingly sad truth. 😔 In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return to rightful owners Native American people. Notorious global cardinal crimes the Christian West has committed, and benefited a great deal, such as centuries-long global Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is notorious Colonization still lingering on, may I ask? 🤷

@@dauhloweme8127 im sure the prices are in USD. Since its really hard to get your hands on a gun legally. Plus, its something that can get you in real trouble. If you get stopped by the police and they find a gun on you, they automatically tie you to the cartels and will get any information on how and why you got a gun. And even if you just say its for personal self defense etc, then theyll extortionate you for them to let you go and not take you to jail, and they will also take your gun. I love in a city like 2 or 3 hours away from TJ, and here a handgun cost ranges from 1k to 5k. Me and my mom recently got pulled over for the 1st time my heart dropped to my stomach when they made us go to the police station and had us parked out front, its definitely a scary feeling not knowing what could happen after about an hour and my cousin (who is a local and why we went to visit) came and talked to them we gave them 120$ and were let go. the cop came back (while we waited for my cousin) with another truck with utah plates and wanted us gone probably for he can get money out of them too. They "wrote" us a ticket but said "we can settle it between us give me half and ill rip the ticket" and then we were free to leave. I'm glad my brother or husband weren't with us.
