Welcome to Colombia
The Guatavita Lagoon (parques.car.go...) is located in the Eastern Cordillera of the Colombian Andes. Exactly in the town of Sesquilé (www.sesquile-cu..., an hour and a half by car from Bogotá. It is a wonderful landscape at 3,100 meters above sea level, with a temperature between 5º and 10ºC. The Guatavita Lagoon has been suitable for nature tourism by the CAR (www.car.gov.co). It is a place full of Colombian history and culture.
In the Guatavita Lagoon you will find guided tours in which it is possible not only to get into the beautiful nature, but to know first-hand everything about the Muisca civilization (www.ancient.eu.... To appreciate the splendor of the lagoon, the park has three cobbled viewpoints located at different levels, ideal for quietly contemplating the place and nature photography. You will also find the Kusmuy, a space that serves as the setting for ancestral practices of indigenous culture.
The Guatavita Lagoon opens every day from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm and if you want to come to know one of the most beautiful places in Colombia you must come prepared to climb the mountain, the cold and the rain.
The tours are only in Spanish and if you don't know how to speak Spanish before traveling Colombia, I suggest you get a translator. So, you can learn all about the paramo, the lagoon, the surrounding towns and the El Dorado legend (theculturetrip..., where the Muisca ancestors bathed in gold.
