This is my favorite place in the world to visit and take a drive to on a nice Sunday from Arlington, Virginia. Been there so many times I have lost count. Such a beautiful, historical little town, especially gorgeous during the Fall months. Years ago, they had ladies walking around in hoop skirts, soldiers dressed in Civil War uniforms, a Civil War wax museum, several antique shops, a glass blowing shop, an ironworks demonstration. I think Covid may have changed a lot of little things in the town, have not been there for about five years, but it is still a wonderful place.

Another great episode! Hiking, small towns, scenic views and history lessons all in one. As a native West Virginian, I've yet to visit Harpers Ferry. I've passed near there several times but never with time enough to stop and explore the town. Per the Hiking Project app, The Maryland Heights trail is 6.8 miles, nearly 1500ft of elevation gain. Great job but looks worth it from the view. Note Amtrak stops at Harpers Ferry, I believe along the Capital Limited. I've read up on the C&O Canal trail, from DC to Cumberland (another cool town to explore). From there, a trail can take you to Pittsburgh! EDIT:PS: I have driven the entire Skyline Drive, just a few years ago. About 30 years ago I did it and some of the hiking trails along the way.

A little RR logistics and history...the first train was a coal train on the original B&O mainline from Baltimore to the Ohio River. The second train was a lucky break for you, as the trail bridge is on a branch line that doesn't see much train traffic at all. Then you caught an intermodal likely headed for Pittsburgh and Chicago from your table at the Rabbit Hole. Love Harpers Ferry!

Beautiful! I grew up in Baltimore and remember trips to beautiful places like that. I’m pretty sure that’s where I got my love for old architecture!!
Hello Robert, of all the years of videos of your trips, this ranks right near the top in excellent in capturing a lovely place of history. The view from on top of the large hill (or little mountain) was the best 'commanding view' of a town. I was thinking it looked like a model railroad scene when I first saw it and you panned down and there was a train track with a passing train. For many reasons it really was wonderful. Continue your good work and always be safe my friend.

There you go following us again! LOL! Really, it has been some 40 years since I have been in the area. except we were in Cumberland Maryland a couple of years ago. Back in the day, I was all over those mountains (hills) on a motorcycle. Shame, back then, you just don't slow down to admire the details. The Potomac now, I have canoed rapids up near there and sailed my first boat from DC to Annapolis from that river, the start of my boating life. Sure you bring back memories, but we like your perspective a lot more, as you say, one day, we will be back!

The nice thing about the confluence, in addition to the view, is you are standing in West Virginia and across the water to your left is Maryland and to your right is Virginia, so you can see all three states.

That part where you pointed out that hill up there used to be part of the Confederacy... If you take the state road up there I think it's state road 9 maybe? It goes up to it yet another historic Civil War site. It was the Bolivar camp (Union camp) and skirmish/ battleground.. That side is different than bolivar heights I'm not always sure I'm the spelling... It is just a self tour site you walk around the top field and you read the plaques and look at the statues
