Visiting Jane Austen's Home

After seeing Jane Austen's memorial in Winchester Cathedral I really wanted to check out her house and family connection to this small village in Hampshire. The museum is really sweet and informative with lots on display, worth a visit and to nearby Chawton house as well. I tried to include as much info as possible but as always I'm no expert. A really nice day out - thanks for watching :)

I do love the little door in the tree... those sorts of folklore type things scattered around the place are a wonderful idea.

Oh that was so interesting Nimi, I loved seeing inside the house. We didn't have time to go in when we visited so it was nice to see. Thanks for showing us around and hope your dad enjoyed his birthday, and CAKE 🎂 🎉

Ahh thank you - I would recommend checking it out sometime when you’re in Hampshire 😊❤ and yes he had a nice birthday and the cake actually turned out alright 😂

@@madmousetales thanks Nimi will definitely try to but we always have Ky with us, so sometimes tricky to visit places inside. Glad the cake turned out ok, I have not question that it wouldn’t do 🥰

Thanks for that tour and I'm ashamed, at my age, to never having read any of Ms Austen's books -- classics of literature that they are. It must have been a very strange and restrictive life for middle class women -- by our standards, anyway -- in her day. Perhaps most women didn't feel "restricted" but were happy enough in their roles. If one doesn't know different, it's hard to be dissatisfied. Women have come a long way by comparison in terms of what is open to them in modern life... for good and for bad.

@@madmousetales I've seen a couple of old movies based on her books... I suspect that doesn't count though. I once knew a woman who did a degree on Jane Austen and that lady was the dullest woman I have ever met if you made the mistake of talking about Jane Austen with her.
