Mark Twain once wrote: "The two most important days in your life is when you're born and the day you find out why" and I like to think that Kayne did the latter part.

When I was a kid my mother had cancer and ended up passing away. Before, it seemed impossible to imagine life without her, not even possible to really comprehend. Afterwards, after a month of basically just crying, things slowly adapted. The biggest realization, or maybe biggest pain, was how fast the world moves around you when you need a moment to just cry. 2 months later, it's still VERY real to you, but to everyone else, they almost forget. They move on much faster, even people she knew. I appreciate her and her advice tenfold more. Hopefully one day cancer isn't really a big deal with our technology.

I feel this one so much! Thank you, this is such an important aspect to share about death and grieving! I hope that everyone who reads this will remember it when they come to deal with someone who has recently lost their loved one. Because it feels good to be ackowledged to take that moment and space to cry, over and over again as long as it needs to happen, and to not be alone in it..

This hit because I, too, lost my mom to cancer and after losing her, I dreaded every day that passed because it was one day further away from her last day of life. Time felt too fast and I couldn't bear it. October of 2022 will be 3 years since she passed, and I keep her memory alive but it's still hard.

Mom is so right about grief, it has no rules. You can be fine and then out of nowhere it hits you, sometimes in small ways other times it overwhelms. I think its important to know that you never "move on" from a loss but that you find how that person, or pet even, becomes part of the fabric of your life and those who have passed family or pets become a part of you that you never lose.

I have been a nurse for 40 years and have been privileged to be present and involved with many patients and their families through their most difficult times. Kayne and his family are truly remarkable, their openness and ability to communicate with each other as a family let alone to millions of viewers is so inspiring. Equally the way you ask all the right and difficult questions with such empathy and compassion is heartwarming, people need to see these stories.

This really hits hard. My little cousin whom I loved more then anything else was diagnosed with a mutation of mitochondria desease which had only been seen 3 times in history. When she was born we were so happy and couldn't wait to see what she would be. I will always remember the day my uncle called me and told us what she was diagnosed with... And how many years she had. The doctors said she would survive around 10 years, maybe a couple more and we were heartbroken. Never did we think that covid was the last tipping point, and she passed with her parents holding her in their arms on the 29th of March 2022 at 3 and a half years old. I miss her everyday and the day I heard she was gone will always be the most painful day of my life as I had never experienced a close family member's death. Let alone my beautiful souled cousin. She was always happy and never knew she was not normal. She was always laughing at whatever I did with her and her laugh will live on inside everyone who new her. Three words she loved saying was "love and play". It signified how innocent she was and what happened wasn't deserved. To think what this family went through brings pain to me. I 100% know that the pain will truly never go away but that's life.

One of the hardest periods of grief is exactly as his mother described- there are so many things to attend to, medications to fill and give, appointments, desperate calls with nurses- and then, suddenly, that person is gone. You arrange the memorial, you see all your family and friends, and then everyone is gone. To me, that’s when the grief really sets in. You were doing so much, and now there is nothing to do. Except cry. This is an incredible family. RIP Kayne.
