Visiting - La Roque Gageac - Lalinde - The Medieval village of Saint Émilion - France 🇫🇷

Day 12 was bright and sunny as we headed west. On such a beautiful morning it would have been a crime not to pause awhile in the pretty honey coloured village of La Roque Gageac. Here we crossed the route we had take on our visit to France the previous year. La Roque sits, somewhat precariously, at the foot of a towering cliff. Away from the cliff the village is hemmed in by the river Dordogne. In recent times rock falls have taken away some of the homes below (2010). We pass the Chateau de Beynac before stopping once more, this time in riverside Lalinde. It was market day with a host of colourful stalls lining the streets. Our final stop before todays destination was the famous wine village of St Emilion. Its lively, animated streets were full of shops selling the local wines to eager tourists. Small squares were buzzing with happy chatter as visitors enjoyed lunch at the many pavement restaurants. That evening we arrived at the outskirts of Bordeaux for a three night stay.

The French countryside is dotted with charming medieval villages that seem to have frozen in time. These villages boast beautiful honey-colored stonework, winding cobblestone streets, and delightful vineyards and shops. It's a lovely contrast to many places where everything seems focused on being new and modern. These villages offer a glimpse into a simpler time.

France has so many beautiful Medieval villages! The character and charm of the countryside is so well preserved! We don’t have anything like that near us- everything is supposed to be new, bigger and better. The honey color of the stone work is wonderful! Charming vineyards and shops. Ji Jennifer. You are so right. We have been so many times yet there are still more of these delightful easy paced villages in which to linger awhile. Big, shiny and new can look dramatic and be beautiful but not necessarily better. These villages are so pretty and full of colourful flowers with delightful cafes and restaurants that are far more human in scale. I like both modern and old but feel more comfortable in these small towns. The stone is very similar to the Cotswold area of England which is filled with pretty villages too. As for Bordeaux it is somewhere we have visited quite a few times and do really enjoy wandering through its history. Thanks for watching once more. Have more great adventurous days.

Absolutely gorgeous again Ivor. The area is very special. We missed Beynac and Le Roque Gageac last year and visited Castelnaud which looks along the River to Beynac. Apparently at one stage the French held Castelnaud and the English Beynac! We also visited St Cyprien which is an enchanting little village too. Lalinde looks a wonderful place - and St Emilion stunning - love the wine from there Another relaxing wander with you guys in such an amazing area!

La Roque does sound like a very precarious place !
