I'm actually thinking about going back this weekend, lol. Everyone keeps telling me I should check out Mackinaw Island so I think I might do that.
@paulwilliams8192 жыл бұрын
I lived there back in 2007-2009. I was the firearms purchaser/salesman at the Mackinaw Outfitters when it was like a Bass Pro Shop. The upstairs was the firearms, archery, and fishing departments.

You lived in Mackinaw? It seems like the winters there would be pretty brutal. How were they?
@paulwilliams8192 жыл бұрын
@@AdventureModeTraveling Town usually is a tourist destination between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Not long after Labor Day it becomes a ghost town. Many of the shops close up for winter. Winters are brutal but I still loved them. I live about a mile out of town and would bundle up and walk in during blizzards when it was even hard to see the next streetlight. I would stop at the three bars in town for a few and walk back home.

Our family used to spend a week up in Mackinaw City just after Labor Day for about 30 years in a row. My mom, her two sisters, and a family friend as well as myself and my cousin found The Beach House on the way back from an excursion in the U.P. and stayed there every year. Cute little white cabins right on the shore of Lake Huron, with a beautiful view of the island and the bridge (quite spectacular at night while enjoying the fire pit). Now that they have passed away (2016) I miss going up there. I may still have to visit once in a while. Hope you enjoyed yourselves.

What a cute and unique little town. That water also looked so beautiful. It looked like a nice little place to go exploring. I wouldn't want to explore that hotel room though... haha 😂

Very expensive I agree. I used priceline and was able to stay at the Holiday Inn for $109 a night in August.

I'm trying to get back up there again this year so I'll probably look into priceline as well, lol. That or airbnb. I don't want to end up having to pay a lot for a mediocre place.

Oh wow didn't realize that the crabs were alive at first! so crazy they painted them! Before you said it, we were thinking that it reminded us of the River Place in Frankenmuth! That little haunted house reminded of the things in Wisconsin Dells or even Niagara Falls, seems to be a theme at these touristy areas. The water there was super pretty!! Such a cool looking bridge! We really want to visit Mackinaw Island (Tim did when he was younger) though it did seem like a lot of fun where you guys were. Such pretty views from around that area! Though not too sure what I'd think about the snakes! lol
@AdventureModeTraveling5 жыл бұрын
I think the same development company put the Frankenmuth one in. I think the Frankenmuth one is a bit nicer looking but doesn't have as much of a variety as Mackinaw. We almost went to the island but we would have only had a couple of hours to spend there :(. Thanks for watching :)

Stephy and Tim Wayco The island’s name is actually spelled “Mackinac.” It’s French :)

First off, thanks for always taking the time to record and upload your travels to so many intriguing locations! And your commentary is always entertaining (and honest)! Holy smoke, there is a LOT to riff on in this video. Mackinaw Crossing is a like *nice* Old Town Kissimmee, but also in a better location geographically. I mean, that Lake Huron is GREAT! And cold, lol. We've only ever been into Lake Ontario, but it was freezing cold in the middle of a hot NY summer. Duuude, we have a Beanie Baby grand piano right in our... oops, nope. Was thinking of our old Casio keyboard in the spare closet. Speaking of Duck, we're pretty sure that the little Mackinaw train should be named Buck, because he stops here. Hahahehe about the space invader. A family used to own a bar/restaurant that had a Space Invaders game in the form of a table. You could eat, drink, and play the video game all on/within the same table. I loved those types! At this point, would you consider yourself more of a Yooper, or a troll? Does it depend on the price value of the room? Which of the following spellings do you prefer: Mackinaw (like the city), or Mackinac (like the bridge and all)? And Cheboygan or Sheboygan? Ahhhhh, the north. :-D
@AdventureModeTraveling5 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm definitely not a yooper because I'm not from nor do I live in the u.p.,lol. Too cold :). It is a little similar to Old Town, but I think I liked Old Town better. The great lakes are beautiful but just way too cold for me. I prefer Mackinaw. Naming the bridge Mackinac feels like they were being defiant, lol.
@ILikeZike5 жыл бұрын
@@AdventureModeTraveling We've loved seeing some of the beautiful natural places in New York, for one, including some beaches, and we don't mean to be defiant, but we sure do appreciate our generally smooth and warm beaches.

I enjoyed the vid! Do you remember what hotel/motel you stayed in in the video?
@AdventureModeTraveling4 жыл бұрын
I think it was the Starlight budget motel. There are a lot of hotels up there and a few that are right by the main part of town. This one was close but not really walking distance to anything.

If you come back don’t go to the kfc the food is okay but they pack people in there close together it’s very small and only has 3 tables it is right in the downtown area near the crossings by all the shops
@AdventureModeTraveling4 жыл бұрын
Oh man, that is small. I think I am going to go back this summer, I want to check the Island out , both forts, and walk around the downtown some more. I'm going to stay at a different hotel though for sure, lol

We wanted to go to the Island but ran out of time. I plan on checking it out this summer, pretty excited about it actually :). I've been there before but it has been quite awhile. Planning a trip to the area and thought I'd watch your vid... lots of fun, but I DID want to point out that the closed captioning on this one is punking ya...lol. although YOU don't drop an f bomb, closed captioning spells out the full-on f*@$ing word on the screen; TWICE ...lmao! I had to watch those clips twice to make sure I wasn't seeing things! (It's when you're discussing buying the train tickets..oh, and when it gets dark....) lol Great video and hoping I can put together something as entertaining when we go. 😀
