Visiting Magical Dordogne France - A Week in a Private Castle Chateau Marouatte 🇫🇷
Join us for this experience: tinyurl.com/francesdordogne
In this video, I'd like to introduce you to France's remarkable but often overlooked region, the Dordogne. We'll visit several postcard villages, and I'll show you the fantastic privately-owned, 11th-century castle where we stay. The Dordogne has long been a popular vacation destination, thanks to its delicious cuisine, fascinating history, château-studded scenery, and charming villages. It's also known for having some of the best prehistoric cave art in France, which can be found in caverns and rock shelters. Don't miss out on the bonus at the end of the video, either!

Dordogne
Departments of France
Dordogne is a department in southwest France, set between the Loire Valley and Pyrenees mountains. It’s known for prehistoric cave paintings in the Vézère Valley, like those in Lascaux Cave. Périgueux is home to the Cathedrale St-Front, its 5 domes, and the Vesunna Museum, built around Roman ruins. The medieval town Sarlat-la-Canéda centers on the Rue de la Republique and the Cathédrale St-Sacerdos.
Chateau Marouatte Dordogne
The castle was probably a wooden fort during the dark ages, converted to stone in the late 1100s. The current castle dates from the early 1200s, with the outer bailey added in 1569. We know it was fought between the English and French for the next 300 years and also played a part in the French wars of religion.
Canton de Brantome
Dordogne
Brantome is a former commune in the Dordogne department in southwestern France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune Brantome en Périgord. It is the seat of the canton of Brantome. Via Lemovicensis, an old pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, runs through Brantome.
Bourdeilles
Commune in France
Bourdeilles is a commune in the Dordogne department in southwestern France.
Saint Jean de Cole
Commune in France
Saint Jean de Cole is a commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France.
Abbaye de Boschaud
Founded in the 12th century, partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the Abbey combines great Cistercian principles in style typical of the Périgord region, the only nave of the church covered by domes on pendentives.
Caviar de Neuvic
Caviar de Neuvic brings this exceptional Beluga caviar thanks to an exclusive partnership with a fish farm in Bulgaria. Beluga caviar comes from the Huso Huso sturgeon. Raised in a holding lake fed by snowmelt, this sturgeon species can reach more than 100 kilos by age 20.
