I was editor of the Dawson Creek Star from 1959 to 1961. My office window looked out at the elevators. In my day there were seven elevators. Dawson Creek was the largest initial grain shipping point in the British Commonwealth. When I came to live in Dawson Creek all the grain went east on the Northern Alberta Railway. In circa 1960 the Pacific Great Eastern came in from the west and for the first some of the grain went down to North Vancouver.

It's quiet because the busy tourist season usually winds down by the end of August. It would be best if you came back in the spring/summer when the tourist season is in full swing

Most tourists are going through to Alaska so it may have been wise to include local camping. Caravans of motor homes come through here constantly

Concentrate on the town, not on what you are having for dinner.
