Yo Hox, haven't been on the channel in a while but used to watch you a lot 5/6 years ago. Back then I couldn't afford any of these crazy pieces as a teenager, now at 22 I've got a job and just copped my first Canada goose! Defo inspired by all those years watching your vids, stay blessed man! Such a shame about the present outlet closing, used to go there all the time

This is a blast from the past. I hope the independants lasts a long time. I was in menswear from 1978 until 1991. Fashion has changed immensely. Back then it was suits and sportswear as the footie terraces ( casuals ) was where guys tended to dress to impress with brands from France. Your store owner mentioned Chipie, they made some serious jeans. I sold this French brand along with Charles Chevignon ( their leathers were some of the best in the world back then, Fiorucci jeans and tee shirts as well as knitwear, Liberto jeans, ( Idaho ) Todds, Pringle, Guess ( well before the boom and buy out), C3 jeans, Paraboot ( excellent hardwearing casual yet smart looking shoes and boots) , Bass Weejun loafrers, Comme des Garçons shirts, Adolfo Domínguez suits, Parkes’ suits, Farah slacks, Givenchy, Moschino, Trussardi, Missoni, Pal Zileri, Oliver, to name a few labels. Back then, Woodhouse, Reiss and Cecil Gee were independent menswear stores to be reckoned with even Workshop at Detroit as well as Parkes Menswear from Manchester. Grenson, Chaney, Loake, Crockett & Jones, Trickers, Churches and John Lobb were the go to for elegant British footwear although the Diadora and Superga trainers were MUST haves back then as well. I was into Red Wing Moctoe boots back then as well. Even today, they are one to have. My fave got to with original Liberto Idaho jeans and original 501s if you can get them! I was wearing a Barbour Beaufort and Bedale jackets as well as a Tommy Miller Trialmaster Belstaff weatherproof cotton jacket before they were staples in your wardrobe. Even the Schott (‘’Shot’’ ) brand was hard to come by. I visited New York and came back with s Perfecto which cost an arm and a leg in The UK back when it was known but not everywhere except places like High Street Ken market, opposite and at Joseph’s in Flore street for example. This is still a must have if you collect vintage gear as well as a Chevignon leather… The football terraces made Stone Island what it is today thanks to its original design team headed by Massimo Osti around 1982 7 83. Of course CP Company was around but not well known… I wish we could go back to the past but the kids of today do not have the resources and the influencers are not into this gear. Mind you, the costs have shot up so much, one of the reasons I got out of the game and moved to Europe where they look to The UK for their own clobber as the Europe is not as healthy as the pound!!!! Long live quality menswear and this channel..! You have an old school clothing fan from a time when London’s Oxford street, South Moulton street, Covent Garden’s Foral Street and London’s St. Christopher’s Place were famous for menswear independent stores. Who spent a fortune to own a priceless piece of clothing..? Back then, it was all made in Europe or The UK. Sadly, now, I am not so sure we are getting what we pay for! Internet has also played a massive part in the demand for decent clobber…

wow, wow, wow. this is my kind of store. been looking forward to this video and did not disappoint. i've been being designer clobber since i was 15 so 40 years now. key take away from this video is the word relationship. both between shop and label and shop and customer. i'm in the midlands and a lot of the old shops that i frequented have gone. when the owner knows your name and you know his (or hers) its just a whole different experience (as a regular you always got a good price even b4 the sale) because they know you a good return customer. the big retailers now (don't mention the F word), are just not the same. 'viva la independente'. not sure what you mean about 'dad trainers' tho? think you mean classic (and/or timeless elegant). more of these videos please.

The reason there’s hardly any independents left is also because people don’t support them. They’d rather give there money to a big cooperate to save 10%

Big fan of Pockets. Independents need a very strong online and social presence if they’re going to survive . The Hanley branch is up the road from me. Stoke alway had a couple of independents. Terraces is another one in Stoke worth checking out.

Mate, you seem always keen on Moncler & SI - are you sponsored by the company or are these videos genuinely independent?? A couple of questions been bugging my mind: - Moncler is quite expensive, is it really worth it? - SI doesn't really seem to carry clear identity in design and popular with chavs.. would people think me as such if I wear the brand? What do you like about it really? Grateful if you could share your thoughts. 🙏
@thehoxtontrend2 ай бұрын
At the new rrp im my personal opinon is too expensive for what it is and is not worth it, but that my humble opinon many will disagree and feel otherwise, I am not sponsored by Moncler or Stone Island. People would not think you were a chav if you wear stone island, I prefer the older stuff newer stuff is not really for me, but again that's just my opinon, I rarely wear these brands myself nowadays to be honest, preferring more affordable, low key pieces, when you have kids you change your perspective on things, I tend to wear more of the older stuff when I do and I have not bought any clothes in a while I consider myself to be ex clothing collector now having sold off most of my collection on my page - instagram.com/hoxtonswardrobe/. Hope that helps bud. Good luck

How can you be so uninformed? There's actually over 200 independent menswear stores throughout UK, that are single stores run by families... Pockets Isn't even "independent", they have 3-4 locations.
