Join us on this short trip to "the darndest place you'll ever visit," Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch in Picacho, AZ. One of the top best things to do in Southern Arizona.
Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch and Petting Zoo is just off of the I10 corridor and at the base of Picacho Peak in Picacho, AZ. Located just 40 minutes north of Tucson, AZ and 1 hour and 10 minutes south of Phoenix, AZ, the ranch is home to dozens of ostrich and more.
We took the trip up just an hour from our home for a fun-filled day with the animals. For $12, you get a cup full of fee, a stick of seed to feed the parakeets, a small cup of nectar to feed the lorikeets, and tokens for feed for the bunnies and ducks. For an extra $3, you can even feed stingrays!
The first stop just outside of the main building is home to the mini donkeys (including the local famous "smiley the donkey"). Across the way is the parakeet cage where you can feed parakeets with the seed stick. Before the main attraction, you can also feed deer, send food up to the goat penthouse, and offer up a kiss with one of the goats at the goat kissing booth!
The ostrich, while clumsy and intimidating, are a fun bunch of animals to feed, but just be careful because "yes, ostrich do bite!" After the ostrich arena, you can feed St. Croix sheep, pygmy goats, bunnies, ducks and lorikeets! On your way out, you can stop by and see/feed the stingrays, explore the gift shop full of ostrich inspired merchandise. And of course, the shooting gallery!
