Nice knife gift for the Palawan natives, some people just give them lots of cigarettes but that's totally unhealthy! Try taking them chocolate as a gift next time, that makes them happy! LOL

Do they have blood ties to the Sumatran Batak?
@MSLBushcraftSurvival
@MSLBushcraftSurvival 3 жыл бұрын
I dont think they have blood ties to sumatra Batak. But not sure. Those Palawan Batak are from the very first human migration wave, closer related to indigenous from Papua new Guinea and Australian Aboriginals. They started mixing with other non Negrito tribes especially lately since their tribes are shrinking fast. One trademark is black curly hair and mostly pretty dark skin with out the typical "Chinese eyes". I don't see that in the sumatra Batak. But who knows, mixing with other tribes for a few thousand years might change the appearance completely...

If there's war and most of the modern cities are just piles of concrete rubble, us city dwellers won't survive in the jungle and mountain retreat unless we learn their survival techniques in haste. These people will survive without money and clutters of modern living. Btw my Grandparents survived World War 2 by living this way in the jungles of our country.

There are definitely some differences, but if there are similarities, it's still yet to be proven.

The batak in indonesia is another one and its more of malay. this "batak" is in philipine and is related to negritos of malaysia peninsula. its intresting how they call themself "batak" because hundreds km apart in malaysia there is another negrito tribe who call themselvf "batak/bateq/batik"

+Beno Afryan I am also wondering for a while already if those Malaysian batak has the same origin. Would be nice to bring them together and see if they understand each other. I am also wondering if there are more negrito tribes in southeast Asia. For sure, thousands of years ago they been all over the place... Marius

That's interesting, they're speaking Tagalog which is the main language in the Philippines. They're also not negrito or ita because they do not have the dark features.
@MSLBushcraftSurvival
@MSLBushcraftSurvival 7 жыл бұрын
+Sarah Gee Well actually they are that negrito type native people. But that tribe became so small over time that they started mixing with other native tribes that are not negrito. Many of the dark features got lost. Their language is a mix of tagalog, batak and cuyonin. Realy interesting is that you can find a tribe in Malaysia that is also called batak, also negritos. And they don't know about each other... Marius

There are also ethnic 'batak' in north sumatra (around lake toba) in Indonesia, batak people in Indonesia are like malay race but still embrace some level of animism enveloped with christianity (catholic & protestant alike). Maybe batak tribe in palawan, malaya and sumatra has same historic coincidence?

loberto rumahorbo Yes, true. I was also wondering about it. Are you talking about the Batak from Taman Negara? To my knowledge there are three "Batak", in Palawan (Philippines), in Taman Negara (Malaysia) and from Samosir (Indonesia). The Palawan and the Taman Negara Batak both seems to be Negritos, means originated from the first time humans migrated asia, closer related to Papua new Guine people and Australian Aborigines. I guess the Palawan and the Taman Negara Batak have the same ancestors and come from the same tribe. But they could be separated already thousands of years. Maybe they have developed a different culture. The Palawan Batak are estimated of only 300 individuals left. I asked them two weeks ago if they know about other "Bataks", they said no. They been pretty surprised when I told them that there are other Batak tribes. I would love to talk to the different Bataks and find out if they have the same origin and how long they are separate. Maybe they would accept each other as one of their own ... Marius

i also wondered if we were coming from from the same root .. what i meant by batak in here is batak from north sumatera (samosir) . honestly never heard of taman negara batak itself ... and i think batak from where i am from is not look like negritos, however based on the story i've had heard that we are coming from india- it is been pointed for many of batak's male named "radja" .. but based on wikipedia, batak filiphine and indonesia came from the same root from taiwan 2500 years ago..
