Grew up in Echo Park in the 70s. Lived up on the hill in Kensington Ave. Went to Logan Street Elementary School, T. S. King Junior High, and Belmont, Class of '78. It was a shithole back then. Learned to fish there and caught my first fish, a blue gill. Left in '78 for college, then the army, then moved around for work, and never went back. I've driven through it years later as a lawyer appearing in downtown courts, and I even parked at the park one time to just think about where I've been and how far I've gone since those years. Yeah, it has gentrified, but I'd never move back.

Still a shit hole with dumpy apartments that cost a fortune.

The area was rough for many years and even recently when the whole pandemic happened but honestly nowadays it's really nice. A few homeless here and there but for the most part it's really pleasant. I do agree that rent is really overpriced but that goes for most of Los Angeles. Many apartments are not that pretty and the nice ones are usually out of most people's price range. There's just too many rich people or millionaires that move into this city and skyrocket all the prices. The nice weather, beaches and Hollywood have made it a place that many people want to move to, or at least live in temporarily. That being said Echo Park is worth visiting.

Well... here I am! Lol! I've been really busy recently but let's get back now to your videos. And you know that I missed your videos. And what a lovely video once again of a lovely place! And I don't care to be ridiculous but I love those boats 😂😂 But this place has so much things that I love or would love to see: nice place, nice lake, nice street art, nice low-riders, etc... And I was amazed to see the "Thriller's house". It made me think about the house in the show "Charmed" (that I love a lot!). Thanks for the video buddy! 👍

YES! the boats are a lot of fun to get on and they are decent exercise too as you need to pedal in order for the boat to move around. There's also another part of Echo park I barely touched upon which is all the thrift stores. They really have amazing fashion in them at cheap prices.

My grandfather used to work at the boathouse as did my dad in the early fifties. I got to ride the little boats all day for free and ate candy until I was sick. It is one of my earliest memories, I’m 74 now, it’s sad L.A. has changed so much.

It is sad that LA has taken such a downturn but at the same time, they did do a good job restoring Echo Park, and I love going for walks there. It's one of my favorite places in Los Angeles.

Oh wow, the 1930s must have been an amazing time in this area. Sometimes when I watch old black and white movies from the early 20th century I wish I could go back in time and see the city how it was, before all the chaos and crazy amount of people.

You're welcome. The world is indeed a small place. How random that I got your car in one of my shots. Echo park truly is an amazing area. Having lived in LA I overlooked it for a long time, until I realized how many amazing places and architecture there is in the area. Since I live in Glendale going to Echo park is so close by I'm often there exploring. Thanks for the compliment about the video.

To me Echo Park, Los Feliz and Silverlake are truly my top areas. They all have a similar vibe and have so many places to visit, plus a ton of hiking trails around that area too. When you live in this area sometimes you truly don't feel like you need to go anywhere else.

@@TheDavidNeytsShownfortunately, the new Councilman for District 13, Hugo Soto-Martinez, has told the EP community at yesterday’s town-hall gathering that he will remove the fence permanently and plans to avoid a homeless encampments by offering services to the homeless. Sounds like he has good intentions to help the homeless but he is in for a RUDE awakening as most transients in encampments refuse ordinary housing, drug and mental health treatment. Also, Hugo Soto-Martinez (just like Councilwoman for District one, Eunisses Hernandez) is a police and private property abolitionist. So it sounds like we’ll all have to defend our families from violent drug-induced erratic behavior 😢😮

The Echo park area was really run down during the pandemic but they've done a ton of work in order to beautify the area. If you have a chance you should check out Echo park. Hope it's still somewhat as beautiful as your childhood in the 70s.

Yes, it is very similar to that movie. Actually Echo park is adjacent to Silverlake. This is probably why it looks similar to the film. I love Echo park and Silverlake. Atwater is a similar neighborhood too which is a sort of extension to Silverlake. If' you're in the area you should check all three neighborhoods out.

@@luismartel999 How did I gentrify it? I came here as an immigrant without much money. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. I’m sorry you feel this way. I guess you should blame the people who colonized the American continent. Unfortunately that was centuries ago. All these people are long gone. Spread the love not hate

It was so great. Yeah, my car got broken into at the lake, I got mugged at the old Pioneer Chicken (stole my 3 piece combo), a homeless dude groped my girlfriend, I stepped in poop under the freeway bridge by the lake, got chased by thugs on bikes by Angelus Temple and had a group of school kids throw a Lime Scooter at my car as we were headed home, but yeah...great time
@TheDavidNeytsShow
@TheDavidNeytsShow Жыл бұрын
Wow, you must have had the unluckiest day in history. Too bad nobody was there to film it. Honestly, the area is really nice. There might be pockets where there's some homeless people and such but they have put a lot of effort in cleaning it in the past year. I just went there a few days ago and it was super peaceful and clean. Lots of people around enjoying the park.

Your day must’ve lasted over 20 years because Pioneer chicken closed in the 2000 zeros and Lime scooters didn’t make their way to this neighborhood until the mid 2010s. If you’re so hell-bent on being negative, at least don’t lie…

@seethevolcane Do you go to people in the street and insult them? I didn't think so. It's easy because you are in front of a computer. That's real cool of you! Also, since you are posting in a public space then I have the right to criticize you too. You see, it isn't pleasant when the comment is targeted back to you. At then end of the day, doesn't make any difference what you think. If someone treats me with respect I'll be kind to them, but if somebody just puts a bunch of exclamation marks and says something silly, then I'll bite back. Either way I think you got the reaction you wanted out of me. Trolls will be trolls ;-) Have a COOL day!
