This is why blind playthroughs are the best. I have played this game a bunch and while still enjoyable it is something when it is played fresh. This goes for all great games.

Yup, somehow Mapo gets these hilarious moments often for me. I was suspecting he had scripted some episodes of "blind" Outer Wilds playthrough when he glitched into the Black Hole forge or pummeled through cacti hell into the Sun Station warp instead of the intended routes. Didn't know shit was possible. And don't get me started on him landing on a campfire at Gabro's Island, then dropping straight into a campfire. That was too perfect! 😅

Don't spoil it. He needs to join jn the Ian fun! The fact he though he had unlimited ammo. The game is made in mid 90s. No way it would make things that easy. Share the bullets, map, share the bullets.

@@volourn9764 Yeah, he maybe thinks of Fallout 3, New Vegas and 4, where they have unlimited ammo for their standard weapon. In Fallout 1 and 2 your companions need ammo.

​​​@@volourn9764 if he didn't help killian with killing that gozmo's killer, killian wouldn't let him in that room (it would be possible only in night, when killian is sleeping). but after that accident killian started to trust mapo... obviously not the best desicion in his life, lol so you can roleplay a traitor in this game. do good things for people and when they started to trust you - stab them in the back. yeaaah, that's postapocaliptic rough world

Even though there's more "immersion" in first person dungeon exploring, you have to admit there's a unique eeriness to the fog of war and spooky ambient music of locations like the old vaults in these games.

Merchants can have multiple inventories and you need to interact with the "tables with stuff on 'em" to access them. Killian's empty because you robbed him blind but maybe he has something on one of the tables, don't remember. Iirc you couldn't report Bob because you tried to blackmail him first which locked you into the "evil path" for that quest. I believe new Fallouts used the old "naked" Pigrats for their Molerat design while the old huge Molerats got discarded.

Right click on your weapon slot at the bottom of the screen to use it's different modes, or to reload without opening inventory.

The game works on a system of "turns" even when you're not in combat. When you healed Ian with your first aid, you were passing time to do so and thus taking more "ticks" of poison damage from your poison affliction which was stacked up from taking several hits. You weren't literally taking damage from healing Ian. Though you used an antidote, it didn't fully remove your poison stacks. It took another turn or two for the remaining poison ticks. Ian's poisoning may also have resolved itself before you tried using the antidote on him.

Reading books takes time too, unless you're careful (or taking the optional side quests to extend it) you can run out of time on your main quest really easily.

47:35 - Careful reading too many skill books, the extra points are nice but time passes when you read and that can really get away from you. 55:24 - It's not highlighted, so you're not, it's just that the antidote cures a certain number of "levels" of poison and you had more than one doses worth. Like how Rad Away will cure radiation, but not necessarily ALL your radiation. 1:19:51 - ... These older games didn't really do "tutorials", they expected you to read the manual to know game functions. 1:25:17 - ... or you could, you know, Barter with him. It's a button in the conversation screen. Though, I would question giving the AI automatic weapons. You'll find out why.

As a OG-Fallout player, it´s kinda intresting to watch this. Wanting to leave junktown after one quest?? Games were different back there. This game is basically 90% unmarked quests. (But yes, you DO have a questlog, sorted by the town you were in!!). Talk to people, barter with them (!)... get your quests on your own.

LOL the dog is a Mad Max reference if you do the right dialog. You can feed him and make him a companion as well. I played the ever-living hell out of this game. Pity I had to catch this so late. OH and Fallout was originally based on the movie "A boy and his dog" It's a brutal movie with people living in vaults after an apocalypse. I won't spoil it but it's a good movie. So I always take the doggo with me for that reason HA HA.

Some vendors have multiple inventories. You access them by looking through each of the tables and ask to buy. Same with fallout 2.

seems like a lot of the mechanics aren't straight foreward it might be a good idea to check the survival guide a bit more often. a lot of the older games where made with reading the guide first in mind.

I think when the raider says he needs to think and you move around it messes it up. You have to just talk to the raider immediately after that first conversation ends. I think he double clicked? and that caused him to run up to him? I don’t know what really happened.

To clarify, I was joking about passing the speech check with the prostitute, not the raider. For the raider, yes, you need to talk to him a second time, which might have required standing just inside the door to be within interaction range, but not aggro range. Trying to interact while standing far away will cause your character to run over.

Ahhh nice this one was one of the first games I ever played. I bought it next to Tiberian Sun and Myth the Fallen Lords. True golden era. Just FYI, the real story is that Fallout 1 and 2 are the true fallout games. You could also say Fallout Tactics kind of gets a bit in that area too. Then Fallout just died. The community is split between 2 sides where the people that played the original first are not very happy with the Bethesda fallouts, and the ones that played the Bethesda fallouts first (usually younger people) tend to dislike the old ones just because of the graphics. The truth imho, is that although Bethesda made Fallout a 3D game, they didn't grasp the aesthetics at all, let alone the lore or storytelling (and also they riddled their games with crashes, bugs and awful npc faces and animations ugh). Fallout was turned from a dark, gritty, post apocalyptic eerie abandoned desert filled with mysterious locations and pseudo-nuclear gothic architecture and technology, into a full fledged enemy fest filled enclosed small map with shiny beam guns set in an apocalyptic colorful The Jetsons with modern scifi architecture, funny lines and hilarious scenes where every single corner is filled to the brim with loot and characters to interact with. This is why people like New Vegas so much in comparison, because it tries to go back to its roots as much as they can. Of course, this happened only because some of the developers were the original Fallout 2 developers and understood the concepts that were wrong in Bethesda's Fallouts. Fallout 4 and 76 we shall not talk about that or we may get people shouting SHAWN! at us while nuking other players towns. Friggen cashgrabbers, "x16 times the detail" and people don't realise those kinds of pitch talks are just at the same level of "don't you guys have phones" only without the backlash. This is the state of gaming today. But I'm glad you can enjoy the old games. Just like the interplay intro says "by gamers, for gamers" sums it all up.

It's funny to think about that if he read the manual beforehand like developers wanted you too, 80 percent of comments wouldn't exist lol. Maybe it's good for the algorithm in the end. I just hope there won't be any backseating complaints. Skipping the core part of the game byt not reading the manual and then complaing that people are backseating after watching him not understanding controls or gameplay and clicking random buttons most of the time would be hypocritical. So happy somebody is playing this though, it was a great era of games.
