I live in Iowa and have for about two years now (in Des Moines for one of them). I DoorDash regularly and even did that full time for a bit in Des Moines. To be completely honest, I feel less safe in most of the Waterloo neighborhoods (where I live now) than I did in any neighborhood in Des Moines. In DSM, you can pretty much be unbothered when walking through neighborhoods and such if you just mind your own business and don't engage. But in ALO, I've had a few suspicious and pretty frightening incidents between just being stared at by everybody on the block and getting that sixth sense of "alright it's time to go" or actually having cars with dark tinted windows pull up on me to follow me and then speed off as soon as I get back to my car. I try to avoid those neighborhoods as much as I'm able to when delivering.
