You are so lucky ! We have Amazon fresh here in Chicago , IL USA and actually you cant get anything less than 10.00 , what you bought would have been at least 50.00 , the inflation here is insane !! I used to get grocery basics just last year like eggs bread cereal etc couple things for under 50.00 now its 100.00 every time we shop 😮it’s crazy here , McDonald’s used to be the cheapest place to eat , a meal for 5.00 niw it’s over 10.00 a meal now so basically most food items here are double and even triple the normal price it was a year ago 😢

There are some stores near me that have the mobile check out option. i kind of love it since you don’t have to wait in the queue for a quick drink or snack. I am not entirely sure how they make sure people aren’t stealing, but I bet with all the cameras and such they have you on video the whole time so they aren’t worried. I also feel like it makes people act a bit more honourable if you basically just assume they are going to be honest and not lie. Maybe that is just because I live in a smaller town, but we honestly never got away with too much even as kids/teenagers running around since there was always someone around who knew your parents and would tell on you. Also during the school year we were in uniform so we couldn’t get away with much without them calling the school to tell on us… which usually kept us in check since we REALLY wanted to go get that coffee of maccers on break time😂

I used to work at the 2nd DMV Amazon JWO . That store has no employees and registers because it's based on the original model plan . All the stores here have at least one register in the small store . That's mostly for food stamps tbh . The large store in VA. Has registers and employees, also in house kitchen and bakery. Also there are many cameras, but most of the devices in the ceiling are sensors. Always put things you don't want back where you got them from so you don't get charged.

Fresh verses the second shops crap I would do Amazon any day, even for the peace as yeah second store was like a normal cattle station of a supermarket- I go to the markets for all fresh fruit, veg, fish, a butcher for meat etc and then the supermarket that has the best specials out of all the giant supermarket’s and I live in Australia 🇦🇺, so zero Amazon chance of it ever been here, but yeah that’s what life has come to and yes I sometimes pay a little more like maybe $10-20 more for the better quality as it lasts longer too and it helps too if you have fridge containers etc to keep your fresh - fresh for as long as possible 👌😊

i like the idea if not having to line up in a queue and the idea if saving time, just wish Amazon would get their online shipping sorted out, recent orders have from their website have taken from anything from 4 days and one order im waiting now 7 days and its not even shipped out yet which is a joke. Waiting a week and its not even sent out is just ridiculous. Seems Amazon is too busy trying to get your money anyway it can through prime, music or video streaming, retail groceries that they dont care about the core of their business and their customer support is just useless.

Modern convenience stores are horrible, they’re busy, chaotic and understaffed. My local Sainsburys is just unpleasant, security guard scowls at you when you walk in, they only have self checkouts which work 50% of the time, If you buy booze you stand there for 3 minutes waiting for a staff member to approve and they seem pissed off having to do it. I order most of my food online with Ocado, and do a top up shop in Waitrose, but I dont like going in an actual shop, staff occasionally poke fun at you or knock you, or start stacking shelves when you are trying to get something, playing 'snakes and ladders' as you were in Sainsburys with people, constantly having to move and wriggle, or hovering round because someone is fixated endlessly choosing chicken, long queues, items out of stock, creepy men, weird security guards, and the packing up at the end of food... Anything that reduces the human interaction element is for me a blessing, and the Amazon food looks appetising. There arent many stores though, mine is miles out, maybe they will open more stores, although I dont like the idea of the security guy at the door, Id prefer it to be totally robotised.

Having worked for 30 years in supermarket retailing in both my native Republic of Ireland and here in the U.K., where I’ve lived for 23 years, I have heard that this is going to be the future in respect of the first store and we are already starting to see some evidence of this here in the U.K. - it is known that Amazon has long-term plans to take over all of the existing U.K. supermarket chains and turn them fully automatic, totally reliant on modern technology, as they have had successful trials in other countries - personally, at age 54, I don’t like this change, as I used to work for an Irish supermarket called Superquinn in my teens in the 80’s and I highly value personal face-to-face contact with the staff in the stores - although I’m able to use them, I already dislike self-service checkouts here in the U.K. and I prefer to interact with a staff member in the store, which is why going home to my local stores in Ireland is such a pleasure, as many SuperValu staff are ex-Superquinn, just like many Morrisons staff here in the U.K. are ex-Tesco staff - I don’t want to deal with a machine or a robot, I want to deal with a real person behind the checkouts or on shop floor, as I believe that customer service is best done by people not machines nor robots, human interaction is priceless and is timeless
