We have been several times and there are heaps of bargains if buying in bulk. Also they are actively looking at the next NZ sites in CHC and WLG plus another one out South AKL. Definitely worth the membership

I think the overall limitation on filling Costco trolleys in NZ is that we live and are paid weekly (or, if your employer is trying to scimp out on doing payroll every week, then fortnightly), rather than monthly. It means that not only do most people not have the budget to buy a month's worth of bulk groceries, but they also don't have the space. As you've mentioned before, we have such small pantries and fridges compared to the US, so there's just nowhere to put that much shopping.

Payment intervals largely depend on what you do for a living. I started working as a lab assistant and was paid weekly, in cash in 1969. As far as I can remember prior to bank transfer payment almost everybody got weekly or fortnightly pay. Once bank transfers became more common and I moved to an "office job" I was on a monthly pay and have stayed there ever since.

I was at Costco on Friday and there was a man with a flat bed trolley loaded up with 8 sacks of flour somewhere between 5 and 10 kg each. I’m guessing he owns a bakery or a pizza restaurant or something.

I have never seen coffins and caskets at Costco 😂. Really happy they opened this in Auckland! Definitely worth the membership…anywhere in the world . Costco is also known for selling organic stuff too.

We just had a newer larger Costco open here and we have yet to go in because of the crowds! It's right off the highway which draws everyone! That must have been a bit of a drive to get there!

I drove there on a week day 45 minutes about a month after it opened thinking kids are at school everyone is back at work…..I barely got a parking space…I walked towards the entrance and there was a queue going into the carpark…..It was a hot day and I couldn’t be bothered, I turned around headed to my car and drove home. I’ve lived all this time without it I’m sure I’ll manage. Maybe when there’s more stores and the novelty has worn off I’ll revisit.

If Costco's had done there homework properly, they would have realized that South Auckland would have attracted more people & revenue annually than West Akld or any other location in NZ in my opinion ? The dirty south is reknowned for its larger than life, big families looking for those illusive specials and knowing that Auckland holds the largest population ! Drury Township is expanding and is currently under development, It would be ideal as it is central enough to service All of Sth Akld, All of East Akld, and the greater parts of the Waikato, Hamilton and others.

The prices here have gone up substantially. I do not have a lot of kitchen storage area in my kitchen which is why have an area in the basement. Many Americans have refrigerators and a large freezer in their garage because of space . If you can buy more initially, in the long run you actually save money. I’m referring to items that you buy on the regular. For example, I buy laundry detergent and the toothpaste in bulk because I know with certainty that I will use those items

I don't think buying in bulk is too common in NZ, not to that extent, I wonder if the food choices are tainted as much as the US food is,I mean in taste. HB in the states,I think it's HB, is far better then Costco.

I bought the Jack cheese as well! ... same reason. Did you notice that it was made and supplied by China? Had me laughing for how China's cheese making isn't quite as well known as that of the US and NZ but... there it was and I wasn't going to pass it up! The texture was all wrong, it was very much a processed cheese for texture but the flavour was right. I saw that Costco is carrying wild caught Sockeye salmon in the frozen section, the price was out of sight but they carry it. Might have to have one for a special occasion I'm thinking. I find that I tend to go there mostly for the Kirkland brand salsa, it's not full of sugar like the Kiwi salsa you find in the taco section at New World and yes, that's the actual name of a national grocery chain here in NZ. My local butcher's prices are right on par with what I saw at Costco for meats, as were the fresh produce prices, no real savings to be found, not really. So, I'll choose to support the local businesses over supporting Costco for those things, plus they tend to look fresher at the local. It is really fun to see all the American products even for not really wanting to take home much of it. I was quickly reminded for how the North American palate is more geared towards salt over the NZ focus on sweet. It really did feel like a quick stop off to the States, even for all the fun Kiwi items.. like you pointed out.

*Kia ora, I don't have a Cosco card and not been... But when the place first opened... it was crazy.... queues so long and trollies filled to the brim. People were posting all over FB at the time... certain times of the day & certain days are now apparently quieter. Heck the queue were even down the motorway when it first opened.... But now as time goes along, I would be thinking it has settled down... but some still fill up their trolley... some have now put up shelves in the garage to store what they buy. Is it worth it... each to their own and to what they want to buy. Would I spend $2,000 of a xmas tree... NO..... would I buy a motorbike there... NO. Would I buy a casket there... NOPE. Do I bulk buy... NO.*

It will be nothing but a memory in 12 months it's in the worst possible part of Auckland to access for 90% of people living in Auckland....it's dead in the water...also things seem so expensive because the dollar is worth half as much and tax is added into the price realistically the prices are probably pretty much the same as in America your just not using American money. It's far from " dead in the water" 😂, it's one of the busiest costco stores worldwide and already over 170.000 members in Auckland , I've got some great deals, the new store out by the airport, welly and chch will be great too 😉
