World Water Park opened with the rest of West Edmonton Mall in April, 1986 and has seen various changes and improvements over the years. Despite its age, it remains one of the best attractions of its kind in the world. We take an in-depth visit. #worldwaterpark #westedmontonmall #waterslides

This has always been a really great waterpark. Sad that it is understaffed and major speed and gimmick slides are closed. The replacement slides of the expansion era are much more diverse than the original slides which were mostly all typical beige slides. Many of the slides on the front end are much improved from the original bunch of slides. Glad to see Blue Bullet is still there. It was fast and dark. I remember shooting through it like a missile and it was borderline claustrophobic so it is nice when you see light at the end of the tunnel. At one point you mentioned losing your sense of up and down in one of the other dark tube slides higher up. I experienced that as well. For a minute I had the sensation that I was sliding up an incline, not down. The way the whole slide structure is in a drop shadow from the natural UV light makes a really unique experience when riding the opaque tube slides at World Waterpark. The last time I was there I just looked through the glass wall from the mall area. Originally the wave pool would come alive for 10 minute intervals. You could rent flat rectangular rafts and surf about 2/3 of the pool distance. No wonder they put an end to all of that. This was a great video tour of one of the best indoor waterparks out there. I wish nothing but prosperity to the mall, Galaxyland and World Waterpark. IMO business looks slow there and I suspect a lot of people in that mall are travelers and not locals, especially when it comes to patrons of gimmick attractions. WEM is a gem. I don't know if I would ever make it that way again. If I did I would love to go to the waterpark as well as ride the Mindbender a dozen times or more.
