My first bike was a 500x and for me it was the perfect all rounder. Easy in town, fun on the twisties, great as a tourer. Had it for 2 years and clocked almost 70,000kms including 2 runs from Melbourne to Townsville & back. Mine was a 2016 and this one looks even more capable. If you’re after something versatile I’d highly recommend taking one out for a test ride. (I now own a MV TV Lusso which is like a larger and much more mental CB500X! 😜🤟🏼).

I've been riding for 27 years, litre+ bikes since '99 and got a Rebel 500 last April to replace my old ST1100 as a daily. Back to basics. You can't say there's anything (legal) that a 500 is incapable of, unless you are that special one who has to ride 500 miles every day, in which case only your posterior talents would be the limiting factor... I've clocked about 5000 miles on it and honestly, I don't know why I'd want to pay twice as much for a 'bigger' bike. It doesn't feel like a downgrade and the Honda 500s are all you need; Reliable, comfortable and economical. No, I don't work for Honda. ;)

How about the handlebar vibrations at highway speeds that several folks have commented about - what's your experience (throughways/highways/turnpikes)?
@marcvanartevelde5586
@marcvanartevelde5586 3 жыл бұрын
@@usernamemykel The high frequency vibrations are noticeably there, particularly in the handlebars, but they're not so intense that they'd put your fingers to sleep in ten minutes. I'd say it's only annoying between about 105 - 115 kph (65 and 72mph) but I don't think they're anything a pair of decent bar end weights wouldn't solve. I'm rarely in that speed bracket because our motorway speed limit is 120 and on the national roads it's 70(ish). If I'd have to spend a lot of time on the motorway, I'd probably go for the X or R model, not the Rebel, because she's also geared a little shorter; top speed is about 105mph. At any speed she just feels planted, really mature, relaxing and stable on the straights, nible and flickable around town and the twisties, in faster curves she does have a little of that cruiser-typical 'flex' which is to be expected. A real joy to ride in my opinion, for anyone of any competence level. But yeah, if I'd have to spend more than 40 miles on the highway every day, I wouldn't go for the Rebel but one of her sisters.

The problem with most sub 600cc bikes is that they are considered beginner bikes and manufacturers use that as an excuse to make them flimsy. So many 250s and 300s were made from twigs of cheap metal, springs from ballpoint pens and weak brakes. These Hondas seem like proper bikes, just ones that happen to be less powerful and great for beginners. Fortunately it seems like Kawasaki is also improving a lot on their 400cc bikes.

Love the Scottish scenery... 👀 Here in the States, we've got no license tiers on our motorcycle endorsement - so there's less of a demand for A2 class bikes, except as "starter" bikes. Which is a darn shame, as I love chucking my '19 CB500F around back roads. At any legal speeds, I'm not needing anything more. If I just HAD to constantly ride Interstates - sure, I might want a larger bike. But I'd rather enjoy the scenery & the ride, as opposed to dodging 18-Wheeled trucks pitching down the road at 80MPH.

Vancouver Island, Canada here. Current ride 21 CB500X. ($8,200 CDN Dollars list. Freight, Pdi, tax = $10,000 out the door) Keeping the revs in the 4,500 range I get 90 mpg. Been riding for 45yrs. The only things I don't like about the 21 is the seat which slants forward and the rear shock which needs a rebound adjustment. The seat, I can live with and I think it's getting better and an aftermarket rear shock will fix that issue. It's one of my favorite bikes I've owned, the little motor that could. Cost of ownership is low. Love the new updates, did Honda say anything about the seat, has it had a bit of a re design. Nice review, l would love loke to ride the 3 models back to back. I'll run my 21 into the ground, then get another for sure.

I'm hoping to do a beginner riding course next month and if all go well then I can pick up my first bike. All three of these are on my want list but I'm leading towards the 500F or 500R. Have they fix the Dash/cluster brightness for daytime riding? that seem to be one of the issues owner and other reviewers have complained about on older models. Also hope we get the yellow or grey as an option for color here in the States.

I have a 2021 CB500X and love it…. But if Honda upped it to 750cc (80-90Bhp) and gave the DCT option/cruise/heated grips…I genuinely think they would have such a do anything bike! And the sales would be next level! Especially in that black/Khaki Green/Gold forks combination ….

@@DrBeastage dct isnt really riding a motorcycle imo, although it is a great solution for folks who have trouble shifting/clutching. And although you dont have to shift either on a electric bike, those are a lot different since they use a whole other method of propulsion. Would love some (proper) cruise though. Had cruise control on my bike once, after i changed my grips... throttle stayed open because of friction on the handlebars, thats not really nice. I'd like to release the gas when braking and/or clutching

I understand that these are for a2 license, but if they increase the engine capacity from 471cc to 498cc with 53~54bhp (around 9500~9600rpm) and 47Nm of torque, then these bikes will be a great allrounder.

not as comfortable as a cruiser or tourer or even a cafe and the Handlebars Do Apparently Vibrate but I don't know if its improved greatly over previous versions so much as been mitigated by smoothing out everything else on the bike. So far if I seriously considered getting this bike (and I am) then the add ons I would need are the Phone Holder, skid plate, set of Dirt Tires, Windshields for Handlebars, Crashbar and Optionally Down the Line, Heated Grips( If Heated Gloves Don't Work), and Soft Baggage. 8600 rpm is high revving eh? For a car I guess. A more impressive aspect of this engine, in my experience, is the fact that it's so happy down at low revs. Second gear @ 2500 rpm is no problem and quite slow for easy low speed work. First gear can crawl along without needing to slip the clutch. This has not been my experience with other small p-twins, which generally seem to 'chug' under ~ 4k rpm.

The only reason (can we be honest here?) most like me (middle age; if 110 is the end of life) riders that are overweight and over 6’ tall, go for top end 1,000++ CC is because we are (see above). If I were skinny, and still over 50 (as I am) I would most definitively go for 500X. But that is a matter of opinion. And that is my honest comment here.

I did this route just four weeks ago. Cannot recommend it enough! I did think a couple of times a smaller bike might suit the route better (was on my z1000sx) not sure I could go to 47bhp though.... Might have to give that 500x a go and see.

Between Super Tenere and 500x, I almost always reach for X. Sometimes, I reach for s10 just to not feel neglected. I love it but, X is so much more practical. For bad weather and long distance hi speed touring s10 is way better and safer but, I still took X on 2000 miles trip in 6 days and it was a blast.

I wonder, is there a choice of rims with spoke on the CB500X?

You can definitely get spoked rims for CB500X, though I think they're all after-market

Nothing from Honda. Rally Raid do loads of aftermarket stuff including spoked wheels.

I’m begin rider , looking for 500cc motorcycle. I’m not sure what I start with. Watch many videos about 500cc. Now I got 3 in my choice. Cb500x, cb500f , rebel 500. So difficult to choose now between three of them. Any experience rider , please advise me . I’m begging 🙏, don’t know to choose which one is better for long distance riding. All of them is capable for long distance riding.

Hi, great review! As a total beginner, I consider to buy the cb500x as my first bike, what do think how is it with a passenger and stuff for longer rides!? Regards from Serbia :)

Sve najbolje i sigurna cesta.

Tebi jos jednom hvala i pozdrav ✌️

i love my 500F, but it is from 2013 so the suspension is really soft and frankly, frightening at times.

Any low seat option for 500X? Hope so..., if not this may alienate shorter riders and generally the Asian markets.

@No_Namebut if the seat is low then they alienate taller rider. They've made a choice. I hope there is a lower seat for others though.

@No_Name true, but then there's limits on how high a seat can be lifted.

@No_Name hi again, I found out recently there are suspension lowering links available, drop the rear by 20mm, the rider also needs to drop the forks through the bars to maintain its stance

@burkaanc 3 жыл бұрын
@@metalsadman It would be surprising if it wasnt lighter as its a thumper, but you cant just compare power to weight, there are many more reasons, comfort, reliability etc. that make the whole, i think at certain total weight honda was faster as well, i think it as if rider+gear is over 100+kg

If you like the looks of a classic bike, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 makes the same horsepower as the CB500f and in the US, the RE costs $400 less than the Honda.

@@christga100 Not that odd. Different in engine displacement but the same power. I guess different in that one is a modern looking motorcycle and the other has classic styling. You may feel like the Honda is more sporty but with the same horsepower, they will go through the twisties at about the same speed.

These seem like great bikes. But when did colour become "colourway" ? I suspect it has it's origins in the USA..
@1960ARC
@1960ARC 2 жыл бұрын
I think colour way comes from the furniture industry. Used to have a company that made sofas and chairs. When choosing fabric, it was always colour way, as you were talking about a fabric and trim, ie main fabric and scatter cushions, fringe, tie backs etc.
