For those who want a short explanation of what's happening, this is HDD works (Horizontal Directional Drilling). It is used to install pipelines up to 56" dia under obstacles, rivers, mountains, etc, without the need to trench. The drilling rig first drills a small pilot hole along the planned pipeline alignment. Then the drill pipes are tripped out (removed), the pilot bit is changed to a larger Reaming tool which will enlarge the hole to a certain diameter. The reaming is repeated until the hole is large enough to accept the product pipeline. Here, is looks like they ream at 28", 38" and 48" diameter with a motor and lots of centralizers. As this appears to be an outfall (entry point on land and exit on seabed), the product pipeline is either welded from onshore and pushed into the hole in a stepwise manner, or the pipeline is pulled in from offshore. I didn't see the pipeline installation itself, so I imagine it was installed from the shore (300m exit depth it isn't practical to pull in the pipe anyway). It's a nice site. Clean casing / rock interface, massive sea water capacity, nice work!
