Thanks for making these videos. As a person that is trying to learn web design on a low income, I am very dependent of the generosity of you people like yourself that share their knowledge on youtube. However, I really do have to say that no matter how well intentioned a viewer is, the more mono-tone your voice is and the more of a data barrage you throw out, the harder it becomes for your audience to keep up their attention span. I have attended teaching courses in the past and the first thing that they all stress to you is the need to form and maintain a connection with the people you are trying to teach. Simple things like increasing the range of your vocal tone, slipping personal prefs for some features, "I love this part of the app" ...."I hate this part of the app" Even smart ass remarks and occasional quips. Anything to humanise yourself every now and then goes a long way to hold your audiences attention and retaining the information you are trying to show them will be so much easier for them. I made it to 11 minutes before I had to stop your clip because I just could not pay attention any longer in spite of wanting to learn what you are showing us. Thanks again for making the clips amigo. I really hope my words don't offend you. I'm just trying to help :-)

I like watching your videos because you generally explain things in an easy to understand way. This one especially. In the settings, you can click the little pencil icon that appears on hover > Copy to Settings (or if it has a set number of options it'll give you a list to pick from) to have the setting copied automatically with correct formatting and everything. No need to copy/paste or worry about formatting.

Just installed Visual Studio Code tonight as everyone's been on about it for what seems like ages. I've been using Atom for a year or so now but so far VSC looks sweet. Lots of in-built functionality. Was browsing through it's settings when I thought to myself "I know who'll have a video about this" and off I went. Cheers Brad, thanks for the extension suggestions and basic setup info. :)

I have several additional extensions that are great: npm Intellisense - auto-completes the path as you are typing your require() statements Path Intellisense - start typing a folder path and you get auto completions Git Lens - gives you a bunch of inline git information, super handy when working with a team Output Colorizer - Makes the vs code output panel pretty :) Docker - the official Docker extension

For those watching in 2019 (or maybe this existed in 2017 too, not sure): you can now configure which CLI the Terminal will use by default; it's in the dropdown menu in the topright, if you open it, there's an option to "select default" and you can set that to bash if you have it installed. Seems less 'hacky' than changing the setting. Edit: yeah it definitely didn't exist back then, its in the same menu with the multiple terminals in the video, just that the "select default..." isn't there.

Amazing video. I'm brand new to using VSC, and I had been searching google for hours on how to perform simple tasks with the program. Even the introductory videos on VS's website hardly scratched the surface of the things you talked about here. They outlined the basic features of the program, which was great, but it's almost like they forgot to run through how to actually set up a project. Super bizarre. I was ready to give up on VSC altogether. You rock, dude.

Here's a lesser-known tip: VS Code's support for font ligatures... Get those cool-looking arrow function arrows you've seen in tutorial videos... Step #1: Install the 'Fira Code' font. It supports programming ligatures. Besides that, it's one of the most-readable fonts available for coding IMO. Step #2, in VS Code's Settings: - Add Fira Code to the list of fonts. ("editor.fontFamily": "'Fira Code', 'monospace', monospace) - Set: ("editor.fontLigatures": true") Now, check those sweet arrows... Nice... ;)

Really recommend buying Traversy's tutorials on Udemy, hoping for more linux stuff, such as optimizing Kubuntu 19.04 for webdev. I've waisted silly amounts of times figuring out proper ~ /.themes and ~/.icons placement as it's not always intuitive. Really liking the Nord theme by Eliver Lara, it's not only visually aesthetic and pleasing but much easier on your eyes which is important for us programmers. Remember to blink as screens cause us not to which is bad for the eyes.... p.s. Brad, nobody seems to have a decent Linux setup for programmers tutorial on Udemy, maybe something you could try... keep up the good work!!

Brad, is there a way to set the theme of the terminal window separate from the main theme. I regret to say that I may "have" to switch from Brackets only because the terminal and Brackets-Git bash apps are not working on my Linux Mint machine. Terminator is awesome but if I want the editor to switch the files when I switch them in terminal, I may have to let go of the Terminator as well. Any suggestions? I am talking about the file switching like in the Brian Yu Git tutorial @ MJUJ4wbFm_A&t=1s

File-Preferences-Settings started one window, not two. The file shown is "Settings ", not "User Settings". You must have done something earlier to open "User Setting " when you select "Settings". In other words, HELP. I'll mess around some more. Under "Settings" each setting has a settings icon that is exposed when you move your cursor over it. When you click on it, it allows a drop down box for the setting value to provide you with presumably valid values. I can see this might be an improvement over what you are showing. I am running version 1.36.1 and I just installed it. If you change the default, a blue horizontal line marks on the left side of the entire setting marks the fact that the default has been changed.
