A very clear explanation of concept !!!!!! Sir , For that ques Sir I think .........Since , plane perpendicular to axis of cone passing through vertex and the plane in which circle lies are parallel to each other .....both the planes may be assumed to be intersecting at infinity .....Directrix of a circle may be taken as a line at infinity OR since for circle in standard equation , a=b => eccentricity is zero (as circle is a special case of ellipse ) . distance between point P on circle and center S is constant = radius so the only possibility for e to be zero is PM tending to infinity , where M is point on directrix ....!!!!!

Not 3D, as circle is a 2-D figure and directrix if any must lie in the grey plane. Another answer can be simply that directrix does not exist.
