Beautiful work! Studio Ghibli uses Nicker Poster Paint for their film cels. They use Holbein watercolor for their storyboards but the Nicker Poster Paint is used in the finished product. The Ghibli museum in Japan has a fantastic room set up to mimic an illustrators room for one of the films and you can see the poster paint there.

Thank you for the info! I'll have to look into whether I can get that paint 😁 I'd love to visit the museum one day!

I’m impressed that you were able to create these pieces with water-based markers! Markers can be super saturated, but you did a nice job blending them with water!

I have only drawn and colored one painting scene and it was from Spirited Away. Your video makes me want to do a few more scenes.

Ghibli looks stunning in gouache so I wasn’t confident that markers would give the same effect, but you know what, these look fantastic 😍

SO beautiful!! I love that you are embracing the way your art looks like even if it doesn't look perfectly like the movie scene!

I think it might be nicker paints that were used for some of Studio Ghibli’s works and possibly Holbein gouache I think at one point it was possible to buy a set of Holbein gouache that was based on Hayao Miyazaki’s colour palette

Mel ,this video is awesome ,those scenes that you painted from studio ghibli movie ,are so adorable,And I Love the greenery, you have a given it awesome look, Yes,I also believe the the scenes are so cute ,once I saw a video of a craft channel Studsun studio,he created just exact scene ,and I truly enjoyed that, That's why i also think that this Studio Ghibli scenes are so good to recreate, By the way ,as you said ,that we need to create something if we want , without worrying for results, that's why I am painting tiny Polaroid shape paintings these days, even they are not big ,but I am kind of enjoying them,. Thanks for these beautiful paintings ☘️ Have a delightful December 🎀☘️

I just bought a set of the Karin watercolour, and the acrylic markers and would love a more 9n depth video about using them, especially the watercolour ones. I’ve watched KZbin videos where people insist that they need to be activated straight away with water but you seemed to wait for a bit? I’ve seen your other videos about them, which was why I bought them but something focusing on how to use them would be much appreciated if you had the time 😀❤ As others have mention the artists use a poster paint which is hideously expensive as I’ve had my eye on a few sets on eBay. I found this out by watching a short film here on KZbin about one of the artists but I can’t find the video or remember the artist again😂

As far as I know, Studio Ghibli used Poster Colours mainly for their work. At least this was mentioned in my Princess Mononoke artwork. :)

Its beautiful. But idk why I felt like it looked even better before adding the water.

Maybe you can recreate it without water? 😊 sometimes I use the markers without adding any water :)
