Hirschberg test.

Hirschberg test or Hirschberg reflex test.
The Hirschberg Test gives us approximate results of the deviation of the visual axis.
It is useful in children and uncooperative patients.
It allows us to detect strabismus from photographs of the patient, taken with flash.
For its observation in consultation, the patient must be emmetropic or be with his graduation in glasses or contact lens.
It should be viewed with a flashlight or other light source.
The light source should be between 30cm and 1m, in front of the nasal bridge.
The patient must look at the light source.
Interpretation:
The two congruent reflexes: orthophoria
One of the reflections must be centered:
Represents the dominant, fixing eye.
Reflection at the pupillary edge: 15º deviation
Reflection in the center of the iris: 30º deviation
Reflection in the iridosclerocorneal edge: 45º deviation
Each mm of deviation is equivalent to 7º of angle
1 prismatic diopter equals 0.57 degrees of angle.
