I wouldnt call Notch an incel. Incels are people who cant even get laid, let alone get married and have a kid. I just think it was Notch venting his sadness and displeasure with the divorce. Its common for men and women to do that. As i said before, an incel is an 'involuntary celibate' or a person who feels they are not attractive and take their anger out on the women who reject them. Notch is quite the opposite. Unlike incels, Notch actually got a woman and a kid. Something incels cannot do.

Ever since I was a kid I wanted Minecraft but my parents didn’t allow it. I begged them for so many days but then eventually gave up. But nowadays seeing how much hurt that it could have done to me as a kid I’m somewhat glad that my parents didn’t allow me. I watched Minecraft videos all the time when they were starting to get to their peak and remembered being so jealous of all the friends that they had made on there but now, seeing how many friends they truly had and how many “friends” that they manipulated to stay really puts a perspective on things. Not everything is a fine line between good and evil and sometimes it’s hard to see what’s good and what’s not online especially when people have facades that they turn to for virtual innocence. I’m so glad you covered this topic because to be honest I wanna go back to those days of mostly good people and just laughs, cool mods, and transparent content.

I've been a massive fan of Minecraft since I think 2013, so basically 10 years ago, 2 years after its full release, but seeing minecraft turn into something very messed up honestly made me lose my respect. The report system, and most notably the stans because I was thinking they're the main reason why Minecraft's reputation is being destroyed by these intoxicated people. They're everywhere, even on Twitter where there's so many of them. They have the power and audacity to trend anything on Twitter that's related to Minecraft, such as the DreamSMP for example which they are mostly super obsessed with. For example, Dream, Tommyinnit, and more Minecraft content creators. And let's not forget that they can cancel them for the ridiculous reasons you could ever possibly imagine. Dream has been canceled countless times. If Minecraft was a truly improvement change to literally prevent these types of things from happening, then they need to respond to their community, but they still turn on a blind eye. Even though I'm excited for the Minecraft 1.20 Trails And Tales update, we still have to be cautious and aware of what Minecraft's doing.

@kernsanders3973 Жыл бұрын
The start of why notch wanted to sell minecraft is completely incorrect. In fact its linked to one of the darkest parts of minecraft that Notch wanted to address, the private servers built to scam/pay2win players. a lot of these private servers were raking in decent money. Mojang put out new Terms of Services to combat this toxic part of minecraft, so you can see why there was massive efforts to ramp up the backlash, people making big money dont want to let go of that. He was tired of it because of the massive backlash for putting out new legal terms of services for exactly these private servers. It was at this point he made that tweet. Not because he just wanted to make prototypes. Notch stepped away from Minecraft dev and gave that to Jeb while he worked on prototypes, by the time Notch sold he hasnt worked on minecraft for years. I played a few of them and they just that, a bunch of prototype. Also that incel part was horrific speculation, Notch is a billionaire who threw lavish huge parties in his hollywood mansion with celebrities attending regularly. That is about as far from incel as anyone can get, he needed no effort to get laid. He traveled and visited the biggest party islands out there. I'm sure if you ever have a look at Notch's inbox, you will see tons of women wanting to worm themselves into his life.

I would like to mention that it does seem like large parts of what you said about MC Java 1.19.1 is untrue or slightly twisted. Signs would never get censored on Java. That only happens on Bedrock, and it had been like that for a long while before Java 1.19.1. Mojang never monitored or planned to monitor the chat. They specifically put a system in place where people could select messages to report, which _then_ Mojang would see. The chat would never be censored, except for their own Realms services, where you can easily turn that setting off for your own Realm with no caveats. Most of the issues which could cause abuse of chat reports were fixed. There are some ways to get around it, but it seems to be a lot more difficult than it initially was. Censorship of "bad words" would largely only happen on Bedrock, and, as I said, it had been happening for a while before Java 1.19.1.

Personally when Tommy (Innit) was on the grill on twitter that's when the colors really shined through for me. I believe that this all roots back to the day Minecraft went live, when Notch left, he was pushed out and that was the first sign of toxicity which was overshadowed by notch's political opinions, from there the people though the community was nice but those same people were like a part of hive mind in which they cannot self reflect on their own action, unknowingly becoming a monster in disguise kinda like that movie "The Thing" where the monster assimilates people without their knowledge becoming something of a mindless slave, except the monster itself was also in the mind that it is human.

Minecraft nerd here with some notes: 1:33 he actually tweeted this as a joke, but after getting the unexpected response he actually agreed which is kinda funny. 3:53 mojang was already under fire for plenty of reasons at around the same time, which made the whole ordeal even more controversial. Also, it's worth mentioning, there was some censorship before already (mostly in bedrock edition if I recall) but it took things to the extreme. 5:03 I've experienced it first hand, and let me tell you, it's BAD. Sometimes I couldn't even tell why I was getting censored (one notable example being "some diamonds" iirc, something COMPLETELY innocent), and almost every other message I sent had to be rephrased multiple times. 7:23 I don't know FOR SURE you're wrong, but I heavily doubt this is the first. The first POPULAR one maybe, but not the overall first recording of any SMP. 8:08 pretty sure he did that as a joke 10:15 when he says often, he means OFTEN. I've had my account stolen once (luckily I was able to get it back with no losses, my dad mostly handled it so I don't remember the specifics), and I've known many others that had the same happen to them. This is not a rare phenomena, it's just another Tuesday. 12:32 millions, give us the respect we deserve >:D 13:42 not a Minecraft related note, but this marketing tactic of getting you to believe there's a sale is really common in any place you can imagine Overall, good job researching this. I’ve seen several videos talk about the issues about Minecraft and its community, with its conflict and at time outright hostility and aggression towards the developers. I want to have my own take on it. The issue I believe is that people still want to play Minecraft and want more things of it. If Mojang decides not to satisfy player wants, then the community will eventually abandon the game. People are angry not because of entitlement, but because it is clear Mojang needs the community so they do updates, but their updates are not good enough, and it’s leaving the community frustrated. There’s game support, but nothing new or good, isn’t that frustrating? It’s like a toxic relationship. Mojang’s continuous support makes users think they care about them, but their updates are barely exciting anymore; the absolute minimum. They promised more and gave less, people have the right to be pissed. One of the previous update is a pretty good example of this, they were promised fireflies, birch forests and other features. Yet where are they? Oh yeah, in the metaphorical idea trash can because of bogus reasons. If they gave actual and genuine reasons than fine, like the Birch Forests being idea art and they decided they didn’t like how it went so they discarded it. But the reason for the fireflies were stupid, because frogs don’t actually eat them and it’s toxic. Like what??? If that’s a problem that just make it so they can’t eat them???? If ‘safety’ or ‘realism’ was an actual factor than the method to get froglights shouldn’t be added in by their own hypocritical logic. Many times they are being misleading at best, outright lying to their audience at worse. The Mob Vote is the biggest that faces this particular problem in particular, Phantoms at the time looked real cool. The others at the time weren’t that unique as one is basically Minecraft kraken, the other is a weird blob thing and the last is Blaze with beeg shields. People wanted a flying mob that isn’t a bat that only exists for ambience. However due to lack of communication and indirect misleading ideas, the phantoms are one of the most hated mobs to ever exist. The developers drastically underestimated how annoying the mechanics would be and the fanbase suffered for it.(Even if I for one personally feel that it’s irritation level is overrated, there’s an entire dedicated mechanic that allows you to never face them so if you refuse to use it than it’s your fault that you refuse to use it. Not the developers. Don’t give me the ‘oH BUt- buT ExPLOraTION!!?!!’, it’s not a particular difficult mob. Any decent aim with a bow can easily kill the things and if you can’t do that than them very terribly ramming into you give you ample time to destroy them. If you can’t even manage that then play in Peaceful Difficulty, Creative Mode or turn off the feature altogether. By that logic zombies are as annoying as phantoms and should be removed since it ‘forces’ you to sleep and is not difficult but annoying to deal with. Stop being a pussy and stop bitching about a mob that you can literally decide not to face with a click of a button or a single interaction with an object.) Later on, literally every Mob Vote that comes after faces similar expectations and communication issues time and time again. Moreover they exploit the negativity to have sell more and attract attention to the game, that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Back in my point of saying that they are lying at worst, just the previous Mob Vote they stated that ‘don’t be upset! The frogs lost the vote yet got in!!’ while conveniently hiding the fact that that’s because it’s from a Biome Vote not a Mob Vote, of which was stated explicitly to do all biomes eventually. So why did they bring up the frog in the MOB VOTE? To mislead the fandom so that they can placate displeasure. Sure I could give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that maybe they forgot the frog is from the Biome Vote, but with how they are acting? There’s a none zero chance they are intentionally misleading us to reduce the amount of heat they are getting. After all, the implications is that the mobs that lost may come back and that brings positivity so they do have a motive to mislead and trick. If what I think is true, than it shows that they have no intention of listening and would rather lie and scam than actually appease the fanbase that allows their game to remain relevant. As to who I think it’s at fault for this toxicity? To your surprise I would say both actually. Everyone has a fault on this endeavour. Mojang set high expectations for updates when they released bangers like the ocean overhaul, the villager overhaul and Nether overhaul. Thus the community loving the new content expects the same amount of quality and quantity each time. Disaster strike when the Caves And Cliffs update came, expectations weren’t met and the people were pissed. They had the right to do so, they supported the game for its good and meticulous development. However this negative attitude affected Mojang for the worse, now criminally afraid of failing expectations they became low key. The upcoming updates showing little stuff, only things they already made and dare not to promise much. This then lead to a dissatisfied community that further feeds into a loop of anger and resentment. With their poor communication and refusal to address several concerns, the spread of frustration and hostility is honestly warranted. Mojang is probably the pinnacle of ‘failing from success’, they did too well and placed unfair and difficult expectations and pressure on themselves by the community that loved their work. The Mob Vote drama of last year is the ultimate climax of that frustration, frustration that the developers practically ignored and pretended don’t exist. Letting it quietly die off instead of putting actual effort in resolving it. With all these issues and problems, I’m not surprised that the community is becoming increasingly toxic. Who wouldn’t when your beloved franchise is being given the minimum treatment that it deserves? That the once daring and extravagant developers now ‘traumatised’ by the backlash no longer willing to do big things anymore? People love Minecraft, some are even obsessed with it. That’s why so much toxicity and anger exists, because people want the things they like to progress and become better. Something that’s becoming increasingly lacklustre as time progresses. This is compounded by expectations that I do feel is outright not fair, the most current victim of misplaced expectations being the Vault Key item. People placed extreme expectations on that item and are disappointed when it… unlocks a vault. Sure the loot is underwhelming but considering it isn’t meant for late game I don’t see much of the issue except perhaps hoping for something unique. They are seriously people out there expecting a key to open a whole dimension, like sure that would be cool but there’s nothing remotely implied that it’ll do anything on that scale. Thus leading to disappointment when expectations aren’t met when they shouldn’t be such expectations to begin with. The content inadequacy is further augmented by the plentiful mods that exists on Minecraft, which for the people states that if they could do it why can’t the developers? While it is not the best comparison, I do feel like there’s some fair arguments to be made for it. Game development is different from mod development, but they aren’t completely segmented from one another. Yes some mods added things using preexisting content and mechanics, but there are plenty that introduce a whole slew of things. Like you can’t tell me that the Create mod uses only elements from the base game? Coding and programming mods while can’t be directly scaled to triple A game development isn’t a purely unfair comparison. Just like games, mods do still have considerations and the same issues that normal developers go through. Thinking how to implement stuff without braking others, which item fits into the theme? What mechanic may introduce something new and exciting. Or better yet, troubleshooting. Yes the developers have to be more considerable about these conditions and mod creators have greater freedom and looser restrictions, but that’s expected. Of course it’s harder for actual game developers, but it’s also expected. Like you are seriously telling me that a developers of the BESTSELLING GAME IN HUMAN HISTORY is unable to implement all 3 mobs that some rando could do in a basement? Are you telling me that they absolutely couldn’t work out how to implement all of those mobs in? Despite someone else being able to do so within moments of their announcement? At the end, is there a way out of this? I don’t know. It’s a cycle of expectations and failures that perpetuates itself. Telling Mojang to ‘do better’ while fair is also not conducive but faulting the fandom isn’t fair either. In any case, it’s a lose lose situation for everyone.

In playing this game for over 10 years I’ve seen entire organized crime rings in this game who carry out various cyber crimes. This game has a huge amount of money to be made in various forms. From Minecraft servers to rare accounts its possible to make hundreds of thousands on this game alone. Minecraft is probably the single most culturally significant video game in history and with something as big and open ended as the game nobody could predict anything.

Act 1. Wait no that's sad! Notch's family and life fell apart! And he's slowly slipping into incel community rabbit hole. Someone's gotta get him a friend. Valve, hire him. HIRE HIM! We all know how much effort you put into minimum viable products, hence literally all of your games feel fun to play, which he is an absolute prodigy at it. Act 2. Disable SINGLEPLAYER? WHAT? WHY? THAT'S SO UNNECESSARY! Act 4: Custom Minecraft maps back in 2011 used to have a community that just wanted to build and share their maps. If these rats are so rampant in simple maps, this will disencourage making connections with your friends, which is, or was, a huge strength that Kickstart so SO many trends. I still remember the VERY first Hunger Games map with the epic final battle between AntVenom and Captainsparklez (when did the rivalry stop and how did Dream's entrance affect them?). the one thing many rich people have in common is being lonely or depression. When Markus Persson(Notch) had a family, he had a purpose in life... when he didn't, he had nothing. Instead of improving his life, getting into shape or striving for a higher goal, he decided to lay around like a bum. Yes, his wife left him, but he still brought a child into the world. He didn't lose anything. He lacked accomplishment and masculine energy. Yes, you can say his big accomplishment was the Birth of Minecraft, but also his daughter, not to compare those two. His life would be a lot better if he would work on his body and not his feelings.

I'm glad you've actually covered the flaws of the Minecraft community and how a margin of the playerbase consists of either toxic losers or weirdos... the more something is adapted to the masses, the more creeps & 4chan lurkers you may come across. In fact, I'd like to propose the idea of showcasing how much of a jagged, double-edged sword the UNDERTALE community is, given how it's easy to stumble on hot garbage as it is to find neat ideas, from the success of Jakei to the rise & fall of Camila Cuevas, to Toby's reasons to fear the loud minority of the fandom's... 'interests' and generally the huge history behind UNDERTALE AUs. The UNDERTALE community is a HUGE rabbit hole that many people tend to underlook due to whispers from other people saying only purely negative or (VERY RARELY) purely positive light...

Good video! I've been a Minecraft player for 8 years now. For a long time I didn't think the Minecraft community was very toxic or bad but in recent years I've started to really notice the toxicity! It was also when I left the left and the inners of the Minecraft community that I realized how toxic it really was! I think all of the Dream controversies really showed how toxic Minecraft players can be. I don't think some parts are as bad as the video says, but yeah overall this is pretty accurate! The sky and argo situations need to be talked a whole lot more in the community, there are more evil people than this video suggests. Honestly, a lot of the Minecraft community's toxicity and bad things especially on Reddit and Twitter are just because those places are filled with toxic woke people just in general and that's the nature of those platforms. I understand the hate of the mob votes and all, but yeah now that I play Minecraft without being as active in the Minecraft community I see how toxic things are! D: I love Minecraft, I wish the community wasn't so bad! Not everyone is toxic and bad, but the most toxic and mentally unstable people are the most noticeable! D:

A lot of the things covered are really informative, while I'm not a fan of Notch after what he said on twitter, I don't think you covered WHY he sold minecraft with enough detail. The reason for him selling his share was because Mojang and him pushed new EULA changes (end user license agreement, basically the document server owners have to agree to before hosting their minecraft servers). These changes (should've) removed P2W systems that sell in-game items for money. But the community harassed him non-stop and eventually led to that negative POV and selling his share to microsoft
