Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Vitamix 5200. LINK TO Vitamix 5200: amzn.to/1Hq95dR
LINK TO Vitamix Dry Blade Container: amzn.to/1BZMQcD It’s 20.5 inches tall, 7.3 inches wide and weighs 10 lbs 9 oz. It has an industrial, heavy duty look to it. The Vitamix has a 2 peak horsepower motor.
The container holds 64 ounces and is bpa free. Vitamix states it is virtually unbreakable. There are measurements on the jar - ounces, cups on one side and milliliters, liters on the other. The shape of the jar helps pull the ingredients into the blade. The lid is vented, spill proof and has a cap. The blades are hardened stainless steel which is supposed to stay sharp over time. There is an auto shut off feature if the unit gets too hot.The heavy duty cord extends from 19 inches to 6 feet. Included is an owner’s manual, getting started guide with recipes and a DVD. There is also a sturdy binder with recipes for smoothies, soups, desserts and even a kids section with playdough and finger paint recipes - so cute. The binder also folds so you can use it as a stand. It’s such a simple thing but shows how much thought went into this recipe book and the buyer’s ease of use.
The Vitamix comes with a 7 year warranty which is the longest compared to most blenders except for the Blendtec which also offers a 7 year warranty.
The controls are simple with an on/off toggle switch and high/variable toggle switch. There is also a speed control dial. The included tamper is used to push ingredients down into the blade especially when you’re processing thick food. It’s designed not to touch the blade as this part of the tamper will stop at the lid. Make sure you use the tamper with the lid on. You do not want to run the blender with the lid off.
I’m going to test the Vitamix by making a fruit smoothie, a healthy vegetable drink, hot soup and Sherbet for dessert. This looks like a serious machine and I’m hoping it will live up to it’s name.
Let’s start with a basic fruit smoothie. The smoothie is perfectly blended and there are no chunks. I’ll taste it. This is probably the creamiest smoothie I’ve ever had. The blueberries were obliterated, there’s no trace of skin. It is smooth and silky.
To clean, fill halfway with warm water, add 2 drops of dishwashing liquid, lock the lid. Blend on High for 30 - 60 seconds. Turn the unit off and rinse the container and lid with water. Blending is helpful because it would be difficult to manually clean under the blade. After cleaning, dry everything thoroughly. Take the lid plug out of the lid so moisture doesn’t get trapped.There is a flap on the base that you can clean around if you need to. Do not put the container or lid in the dishwasher.
Next, I’ll make a super healthy drink with lots of vegetables. Always put the soft ingredients on the bottom and dry ingredients and ice on top. I’m adding a cup of ice. Put the lid on. Select variable and 1. We’ll turn the unit on, turn to 10, high and blend for a minute.
The vegetable drink is also completely smooth, no chunks at all. I’ll taste it. There’s no grittiness at all. You would expect it to taste a little gritty because the celery is fibrous and the carrots are hard but this is perfectly smooth. Try this blend of vegetables because it’s really healthy and tastes pretty good.
The base can be wiped down. This part does lift up so you can clean under here if you need to.
Next, I’ll make mango sherbet. I’m pouring in 1 cup of milk, 1 pound of frozen mango chunks and a quarter cup of sugar. You can substitute another sweetener if you’d like. Put the lid on Again we’ll start with variable and 1 on the dial. Move the dial to 10 quickly and high. This is similar to a recipe in the Vitamix recipe book. It is a good idea to try their recipes because they’ve already tested it out. You can also use similar ingredients to customize the recipe.
There’re the four mounds, so you know the sherbet is ready. If you over process this, it will start to melt. See how smooth it is, how creamy it is. It tastes absolutely heavenly. I like this consistency but if you want it harder, put it in the freezer. You can see how thick and velvety smooth it is. It’s like a dessert made with a commercial machine at an ice cream shop. This is a great recipe and you should definitely try it.
Is the blender loud? Of course it is, any powerful blender will be loud. The noise is not ear piercing but dull so it’s tolerable.
Overall, the Vitamix is very impressive. If you are just going to make smoothies, then you don't have to spend so much money on a Vitamix. However, if you plan on using the Vitamix a few times a week, it's definitely worth it.

I have this same VitaMix. I love it so much I’ve told my loved ones I want to be buried with it. LOL! This blender will pulverize strawberry seeds and blueberry skins. No one wants blueberry skins stuck in their teeth😣 This was my main reason for spending just over $400 for a blender. LoL. It’s worth it. AND you’ll have it for life.

We also had ours OVER 10 years. It has been used and abused over thousands upon thousands of times. Dishwasher, nut butters, soups, millions of smoothies, almond and cashew milk, margaritas, literally everything! We got it at Costco for $399. It was one of the best investments we’ve ever made! It doesn’t compare to a standard blender, and I wouldn’t even bother with any other brand! Vitamix stands alone! We have finally outworn our container..but the base blender is just fine. Hubby got me the Ascent series this year, but we are saving our old one, tossing the container that finally wore down and just replacing it to give to one of our kids. Love Vitamix!

Got lucky today and just brought a working Vitamix 5200 at the thrift store...5 bucks. No Tamper included however, but not a big deal, Ebay has alot of those tampers for sale for around 4 bucks. Unbelievable deal all the way around :)

I purchase my Vitamin 5200 from Costco about 11 years ago. Honestly, I was afraid to use it. Well, I decided to start using it this year - as a result of all the healthy food items you can make with it. I have never made Pumpkin Soup before, and decided to chop up the Halloween Pumpkin to make Roasted Spice Pumpkin Soup. I altered the recipe a bit to suit my taste. Less onion and a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg added to the Pumpkin cubes while baking. When the Pumpkin was chopped up, I first roasted the cubes in the oven for about 40 minutes, with some olive oil and some spices. Today I was ready for the next step, to make the soup. I can't believe how easy it was to make this soup in the Vitamix. It took only minutes to blend the vegetables with the water and boullion to make the soup. The cream (I used half and half rather than heavy cream) was added at the end. I could have done most of the recipe in the Vitamix rather than baking the Pumpkin first. However, that being said, I have my lunch or dinner made for the next few days. When finished, I watched the video on how to clean the Vitamix properly. With just a tiny drop of dish detergent and about 2 cups of water added, I could not believe how easy it was to clean the unit. I will be using it more often and enjoying what I can make with it. The newer models have a few more bells and whistles, however, this works just as efficiently. I also have the extra Blender Jar for the dry cereals, etc. The Vitamix certainly does much more than just a regular blender, which I also have. I really will be enjoying this much more, now that I have lost my fear on using it.

Cool! I'm finally investing in a new 5200 next week. I call Vitamin directly and they gave me a 10% of of my entire purchase! Plus free shipping! I figure I've paid for hospital bills way more expensive than the cost of this wonderful machine. Peace!

I pulled my 5200 out of the closet because I'm working on eating better. I bought it from Vitamix in 2010 refurbished. It looked brand new with no signs of use. I love my Vitamix. I don't use it for dry or wet chopping but for smoothies and soup....invaluable.

I would have added some ICE with the Smoothy. But either way, the Vita Mix is the BEST and will hold up over the years. Vita Mix now offers a BLUETOOTH Scale that makes it so simple to add the ingredients.

I have a super simple smoothie recipe using a cup of milk,a fistful or two of baby spinach,and a cup of frozen blueberries. Lately,I have been substituting a cup of mixed frozen berries for the blueberries. It has a mix of blackberries,raspberries and blueberries. I have noticed a small number of hard bits in the smoothie,and thought my Vitamix was supposed to produce perfectly smooth smoothies.It does give a perfectly smooth drink when I use only blueberries, but has some hard small bits with the mixed fruit.

Hi! I was planning on getting this model and you put on a fantastic presentation... then you said "if you're just going to make smoothies, you really don't need a vitamix." That's mainly my objective. I need a blender that will blend my Kale, carrots, spinach, broccoli, banana, apple, berries, orange, pears all in one jug EVERYDAY. YES, EVERYDAY. And also put peanuts into the blender and make it into a spread, when I'm not bothered to eat it raw. Do you consider me getting this?
@bestkitchenreviews
@bestkitchenreviews 8 жыл бұрын
+TheTenners Hi, if you plan on using a blender everyday to make drinks using hard vegetables and want to get the smoothest result, then it's best to get this Vitamix. In the video, I meant if you are occasionally making smoothies, you don't need to get a high end blender like this. The Vitamix is an industrial grade blender and it's great for processing nuts. Because of the cost of the blender, I recommend it for people who will actually use it a lot - it sounds like the best choice for you :)

Hi, whether to buy plastic or glass is really a personal choice. Nowadays, most plastic blender containers are BPA free including the Vitamix's container and people feel they are safe to use. I haven't personally experienced the "black flecks" issue some have mentioned online. I believe the black flecks came from the blade hub assembly and Vitamix replaced that for the people who experienced the issue. There was no problem with the actual plastic container. I've used the Vitamix 5200 for about a year and haven't experienced any problems. I hope that helps :)

I recently got the 5200 and make a daily breakfast smoothie (whole foods - very thick) which I love and is so much smoother than the Ninja. However, my spouse has a problem with air bubbles in the smoothie and likes it a little grittier than smooth like silk. I am able to accomplish this by using Variable only, moving up to speed 6, and tamping. Your video shows how you start with Variable, move up from speed 1 to 10, then put it on High. When I tried that but only to Speed 6, then pressed High, the smoothie was exactly the same as mine which was on Speed 10. So apparently, once you press the High button, the speed previously dialed makes no difference. Must the High button be used when blending as Vitamix suggests? If yes, then I don't see how my spouse will be able to drink the smoothie.
@richardr2238
@richardr2238 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen , let me just say that for your spouse , NO, you don"t have to use the "HIGH" button, you would blend his using the variable dial only , the blend time would be according to taste ! BUT, if you want a SILKY SMOOTH juice or soup with ALL the fiber but none of the grit, then you must use the high button !

The high switch is the only way that the maximum cooling system is activated, so it's possible to overheat the motor at higher speeds (at which point it will shut off) unless high mode is used. Pretty stupid design if you ask me. Shouldn't the cooling system always start when the motor gets hot? Seems simple enough to me. Bad design decision.
