What I believe is that when Scar became king he chose Zira to be his queen, thus making Nuka. However, Scar saw him as a weak pathetic cub and disowned Zira and claimed her unworthy to produce a healthy heir. If you see the deleted scenes from the cut outs of The Lion King, he's seen trying to seduce Nala. I believe when Nala refuses to be Scars queen he 'attacks' her. Let's looks into this genetically. Vitani, Nala and Sarafina are the only known lions in the film to have blue eyes. Both Zira and Scar have long muzzles, so why doesn't Vitani? Zira and Scar have a fairly dark pigment, yet Vitani is a lot lighter than Zira. I believe Nala is Vitanis real mother. When Scar is defeated Zira pretends to be loyal to Simba. At the beginning of Simbas reign, Nala gives birth to Vitani but it too traumatized by what happened to her so she gives her up to Zira (zira has one of her followers to nurse vitani). A few years later she has Kopa, Simbas first born son. This gives Zira her chance to get revenge on Simba for killing Scar. As Kopa is out playing around on his own Zira finds him and kills him, which results in getting herself, her cubs and her followers banished to the outlands. During Zira's time in the outlands she finds a dying lioness who has a dark pelted cub with her, Kovu. In the film Kovu states "He wasn't my father..." So Scar clearly isn't Kovu's father. When Zira takes a closer look at the cub she notices he has green eyes, just like Scars. This is when she claims to have 'heard' Scar speak to her and say that he is his future heir. Zira takes the cub from the lioness and promises to raise him as her own cub, this is why Kovu calls Zira mother. In Simba's Pride, Zira introduces Kovu to Simba. This tells me that Simba has never met or even seen Kovu. In another deleted scene Zira is seen 'talking' to Scar again when Nuka and Vitani run back from Pride Rock and tell Zira that Kiara is born. In another scene in Simba's Pride, in the battle, Vitani and Nala confront one another - Vitani says "Where's your pretty daughter Nala?" So this tells me that Zira did say to Vitani at some point that Nala gave her up because she didn't want her, making Vitani more loyal to Zira. Vitani was a big influence on Zira's followers.

Makes me wonder how the fan fics have changed to have both kopa and Kion in them. Technically ( even though it's not cannon) Kopa would have been the first born era until Zira kills him for revenge. Then Kirara ( which unlike) lion guard I think she should be a bit older) and then Kion as the lion guard.

Kovu wasn't scars son. What happened was when Mufasa was still king Zira and Scar had Nuka and Scar promised Zira that when he was King,Zira would be his Queen. But after scar killed Mufasa and became king he choose Nala. Nala denied but scar forced her and they had vitani.Scar said he quote "would only have sons" and told Nala to kill the cub. But instead, Nala brought the cub to Zira and asked her if she could take care of it. Zira said she would. As long as she became scars mate. Nala agreed and Zira became Queen.and Nala left the pride lands to find help. Shortly After Zira became Queen she cheated on Scar and found a male and forced him to mate with her. When they did she had Kovu. Scar excepted the cub and treated it as one of his own. Then one da he choose Kovu to be king.then not long after Simba returned and he fought scar and killed him. He became king and chose Nala to be his Queen and when Simba became king he banished Zira and all of her followers to the outlands.

Vitani's parents are Nala and Scar, Nala gave Vitani away because she thought Scar would kill her if he found out that it was a girl, and when Nala found Simba, she was pregnant with Vitani, but she was to close to having Vitani that if Simba knew, he would suspect that she mated another lion, so she gave Vitani to Zira, not knowing that Zira would teach Vitani bad stuff, but Vitani never forgot who her real mother was, and we get proof of that when Vitani says to Nala "Where's your pretty daughter, Nala" because up until that point we get no indication that they know each other, and when Zira says "Kovu was the last born, before you exiled us to the outlands!" And Vitani looks about two days older than Kovu so how would Nala know a two day old cub, and how would a two day old cub know Nala? Think about it

Nala wasn't forced to mate with Scar. Scar wanted to mate with Nala but she refused. Because she refused Scar's advances, Nala was banished from the Pride lands. That's why she runs into Simba later on and not in the Pride lands. Its in the deleted scenes of the first Lion King if you want to check it out yourself :)
