Best Vittoria tires combo, Barzo and Mezcal. BTW #vittoria is the former Geax. Both Barzo and Mezcal #tires are made with 4 compounds(4c) rubber and use #GRAPHENE for better grip and rolling resistance. TNT or tube, no-tube, reinforced sidewalls. CHeck them out!

After using different XC tires from Schwalbe, Continental and Maxxis. I think that Vittoria’s tires are a little better than their competitors. I used the Schwalbe Racing Ralf, the pattern design was good, the side casing wasn’t strong enough, I teared the side walls pretty easy. Then I changed to Continental Race King and X King, both tires rolled fast, but their lack grip, they were also harder to set tubeless and didn’t seal punctures well, even if the whole was minuscule and I used the continental branded sealant. After that I used Maxxis’s Ikons and Crossmarks, but I had really big problems with teared side walls, even with the EXO casing. The Ikons don’t have much grip on loose conditions. Finally, from Vittoria I have use Barzo, Saguro and Mezcal and I haven’t have any problems set them it tubeless and they seal punctures really well. Barzo is the best all arounder tire, Saguaro has an aggressive pattern, but they do not clear mud really well and Mezcal rolls great, but the Barzo has better grip in most conditions.

I agree, the vittoria's are super nice, I'm on the Mezcal xcr and they have been great for grip and ok for speed. They can't come close to the Michelin Jet XCR in terms of rolling resistance, however the Mezcal's have slightly more edge grip. If you haven't tried the Jet XCR I'd give it a try, its light, durable, and it's the only tire that has actually felt faster. It feels like someone is pushing the bike forward on the flats, it's truly amazing. I plan on setting up a blog or a channel dedicated to bike tires, as it's expensive and frustrating to purchase all of these tires. Since I already have almost every tire made I might as well share my findings. Have fun!

I’m running two barzos, Really impressed with the grip and speed so far. I also have a peyote set. I think the mezcal tires would be my pick for xc speed without losing grip, I think they have better side knobs while possibly being faster than the peyote. Right now things are pretty messy on the trails near me and the barzo has been great even on wet root beds

Hi and what do you think about Mezcal / Mezcal combo for dry and lose technical riding? I´m not riding in the wet :)
@OneWheelLess
@OneWheelLess 5 жыл бұрын
I think on the tire rolling resistance website the mezcal had lower rolling resistance than the Ikon! If I ran Ikons where I live I’d use the exo version so the weight isn’t too far off. My peyote tires are lighter than the mezcal or barzo but have the same sidewall and I’ve ridden them on rocky trails with beds of baby head rocks where I was sure I’d get a puncture and they held up great. It was disconcerting to hear the rim striking the rocks through the tire in the rear, but no significant damage to be seen. This was after a season of xc racing and trail riding. For most of the trails around here I’d like more grip, I’ve done a lot of two wheel drifting around corners. I may run one in the back with a barzo up front this year. The casing is more elastic than a Maxxis Schwalbe or Specialized tire, almost adding suspension. It’s an interesting feeling at first but I like it.

LoveMTB Yes, I mainly was using them on a 110mm specialized camber, definitely felt the difference. I’m really appreciating that supple feel on my 100mm Singlespeed hardtail now. It’s definitely welcome. Not as pronounced with tubes, but still very noticeable.

I have experienced with the saguaro tire...at that time it was geax saguaro. Now vittoria saguaro. 120tpu tire with nobby xc thread design. The thing that striked me most their rubber compound for loose and hard terrain which is used on this tire are lasts really good. Which you wound not understand with couple of days of usuage. But over time you would certainly get this. One weakness though, in muddy condition this would loose it's grip so easily sometimes people might think this is the first time riding you on the trail...dnt know how to brake...dnt knw how to control...so on.

My Vittoria Barzo (gumwall color) blew through the sidewall with a small hole in 50 miles in less of cross country Northeast Ct trails (rocky). Sidewall is wearing noticably thus the one leak which filled with Stans as I washed the tires with a bristle brush. Maybe the brush wore the tire sidewall?!... not going to buy again. Traction is good and I am running this only in the front on a Cannondale Scalpel.

I have great respect for Vittoria, run Saguaro, Goma, Jafaki. I wish they were cheaper though. In shops they can exceed RRP and if not, they very rarely being sold below locally. Only online prices can get a bit more attractive. Unfortunatelly with some mysterious sale of VeeTire from one shop on allegro platform in Poland, nothing can compete with value of those and really there is no point in buying any other tires before the shop runs out. A double ply 120tpi dual compound top of the line VeeTire can be purchased for 16 euro

I do regreat, that I have enough tires atm, and kinda planning on swapping to 29" after I wear the ones I have. But who knows what will happen, so I would rather not stock up.

Thank you for the clear and detailed information. How do you feel with the tires after riding them? I Recently dumped my rigid 26er and got a 29er epic '12 which dropped my jaw how it just keeps rolling with minimal effort. It had installed Onza Canis 2.25 in tubeless which felt good but I'm not so sure if tubeless is the right thing for me since my riding involes longer distance with mostly hardpack and taking shortcuts trough the forest so maybe not enough benefits for me. To be honest I much rather deal with a spare tube or bit of glue in case of a puncture or a broken spoke while on the road instead of having to deal with that latex. While I uninstalled both tubeless wheels I spent 3h cleaning the wheels and the tires inner walls were ruined with latex residue so I dont know how could I ever use them with a latex inner tube since the friction could pinch a hole with time. I have no previous experience with latex tubes but got a pair of vittorias which are waiting for my tire decision. I live in Finland and was thinking a bit wider tire could make it without studs and I like that vittorias tire dimensions are close to actual measure. I first looked at the Continental Crossking but I see they are a bit narrower than I would like. Vittorias tires like to be on the heavier side but the weight seems to have its purpose to make a reliable tire that has a low rolling resistance which I think is more important than weight. Acceleration and uphill should be easier with a lighter tire right? For me between Barzo and Mezcal I think Barzo 2.35 is my choice for all-purpose and especially upcoming winter. Next spring I would like to try the Mezcal to compare the rolling characteristic between the two.

@@jont7318 I ran UST tires with UST rims without sealant from 2001-2006 (Michelin, Panaracer, Hutchinson UST tires on Bontrager and Mavic UST rims). It works, but only if you have UST tires & rims and was still a big improvement over tubes in desert racing. With the new tubeless-ready tires, the tire bead doesn't seat well enough on the tubeless-ready rims to run without sealant. The tires won't seal and will burp air--I don't think you could get very far before they run flat. I switched to using sealant in 2007. You have a much wider selection of tires and rims with that set-up. I don't even see UST tires for sale much anymore.

@@LoveMTB Very pleased with these tires. I've been running a set of 2.35 Mescals front and back in dry conditions. Super fast with good traction in climbs and they hold corners well too. I also ride on some pavement to get to some of my dirt trails and the roll very well over pavement due to the design of the center knobs.

In my experience it is rare that vittoria tyres are not achieving quoted width. Most times they were the biggest tyres I've meassured. HOWEVER graphene series is relatively new model, from wide rims fashion era and possibly 26mm internal is not what they had in mind although I'd say 25-27mm is to me a very sweet spot for width vs weight and practicality. I don't like casing sticking out beyond side knobs as it promotes sidewall cuts. My Dartmoor Thunder rims are 32mm internal and are designed for up to 2,6" according to spec, which to me is quite too wide for that aplication, but seems like wide rims fashion has got outta hand a bit. So I'd say 2,35" should have quoted width even with narrower rims than Yours. Verry dissapointing from Vittoria.

Imho Saguaro is better than Barzo, Barzo loses its grip quite unpredictably over loose, Saguaro has a bit less ultimate grip but is more predictable. Also, my 2.2" (true 2,2" in size) Saguaro is larger in volume and thread width than 2,25" Barzo, but that might just be a defect.
