Loads of people have been asking about the libraries I used for this piece, so I've added them to the description. While these tools work great for me, please remember that a good orchestral mockup isn't so much about the exact libraries you use - rather, it's all about playing to your existing libraries' strengths, and also about how well you know the orchestra as an ensemble. No shortcuts here, just years and years of learning and practice :) Huge thanks to everyone who stopped by to listen. Be sure to check out the full piece - it's linked at the end of the video!

I just got recommended your work 10 minutes ago. Your ability to balance between different sample libraries is pretty darn good, and the mix is nice too. Keep going!

This was awesome. Subbed. Please do make tutorial content on this. Mixing, libraries and how you used them, composition, orchestration etc.
@VIUSmusic

Haha, I've never been one for making tutorial videos where I'm talking - too self conscious lol. In terms of mixing, my workflow is actually very simple, and I tend to do it as I compose (which a lot of people will frown on, but hey it works). For orchestral stuff like this, I always just use the stock Logic EQ and reverb (Space Designer), and not much else. As for the libraries, they're listed in the description of the piece this snippet was taken from. I'll always maintain that it doesn't matter which libraries you use though, rather it's all about how well you know them (and also how well you know the orchestra as an ensemble!). I'm also a big advocate for playing everything into your DAW via a MIDI keyboard rather than drawing the notes and automation in. Make sure to constantly ride that modwheel too, especially for the brass! The orchestration more or less follows established practices - in other words, I always write as if I'm writing for live players. But yeah, if you have questions about anything in particular, let me know!

@@VIUSmusic Sweet!! And by the way, do you have the concert score and if you do, how could I acquire it? I am interested on getting it for scholar study :)
@VIUSmusic
@VIUSmusic Ай бұрын
I do have a score for a live version of the piece which'll be recorded in October, but it's still subject to changes and revisions so I'm not too comfortable sharing it just yet. There's also quite a few differences between what's on the score and what you hear here (mainly in the percussion, since they only had three players available for the recording sessions). Once it gets recorded though, and if no further revisions are needed, I might put it up on my Ko-fi or something :)

Can you suggest a string library that sounds like vintage orchestra from 80s, listen to a song called "what a wonderful thing to do by joey pecoraro"
@VIUSmusic
@VIUSmusic Ай бұрын
I feel like you can pull that effect off with any string library in your arsenal - that "vintage" feel you're after mainly comes from the harmonies, and probably a little bit of processing as well. Perhaps you could even run them through a plugin like iZotope Vinyl - I've done that a bunch of times on projects over the years. (That's a free plugin btw!)

Thank you! For the score, all of it was already engraved on Dorico, so I just screen-recorded the Dorico file, cropped out the bits I didn't need, and then inverted the colours on my video editing program (Davinci Resolve).
