Thanks again and again : your explanation is FUNDAMENTAL to the knowledge of Bach's work and Classical Music in full extent . This lesson subverts many impressions I had developed myself or borrowed from experienced Musicians , and compells me to further explore the innumerable interpretations of this Masterpiece . In the end , I fully realize why this Work is nicknamed 'The Everest of Piano/Keyboard Music' .

A fascinating interpretation of this part of Bach’s life.

There are definitely aspects of this piece that come through on a harpsichord that will never do the same on a piano. I think it has to do with the plucked vs. hammered nature and the VERY sharp attacks or "leading edges" of the notes. Some of those very fast trills are almost lost on the piano, by comparison. Perhaps the harpsichord should see wider use.

His interpretation of the Goldberg Variations is absolutely the best in my opinion
Agreed- this guy has a massive chip on his shoulder. Don’t like his playing either

Don’t know why you consider him an angry guy? I personally did not have this impression. He seems to be a very rational and intelligible person. And without any doubt A. Staier is one of the most brilliant harpsichordist of our times technically speaking.
