As a kid I had insomnia, I'd stay up a few days at a time and when I slept it felt like I just blinked, by body ached for years, I felt older as the days turned to weeks, I took the time to research because even though video games brought me joy I felt as though time wanned on me that I should do something productive. I came across classical music and Vivaldi being the first I truly sat and listened to. All that time awake listening to classical music has payed off more than I can recount because I feel as though my sleepiness years were some of the most enlightening of my time. I'm a chef now, and during the mornings I like to start with Vivaldi, this particular piece. And I am moved. Each morning

When Vivaldi died in 1741 his music was in the most complete darkness. It was the scholars of Bach in the nineteenth century who first heard of Vivaldi, thanks to the ancient manuscripts where Bach had transcribed the concerts of someone called Vivaldi. It was known who Bach was, but who was Vivaldi? Fortunately, a search was conducted, which resulted in the rescue of Vivaldi from oblivion.

Apparently towards the later years in his life Vivaldi went out of style, and was forgotten by many musicians until Bach found out about his music. I’m not sure how people could forget about him, considering the quality of his music.
@Iyashikei-t4u6 жыл бұрын
He went out of style in the Romantic era as well with many composers of that time saying he only made one concerto hundreds of times. It's a shame since the Romantic era is still influential today so many people won't give Vivaldi a listen except for his Four Seasons.
@eyupozturk21996 жыл бұрын
Even Bach was forgotten, not once but twice. Just after his death, he was forgotten, then rediscovered by Mozart when one of his sons wanted to brag about how his music was better than his fathers to Mozart; then he was forgotten again when Beethoven and his sinfonic music erased Barock from memory; he was rediscovered by *** wrong Brahms **** correct *** Mendelsohn.
@arcangelogrimani6 жыл бұрын
One thing that contributed to this sad fact might be the lack of a proper medium at that time to preserve the works of the composers other than the paper, hence, Music was easily forgotten. Nowadays we have KZbin for example, which serves this purpose, and makes music reachable to people.

Vivaldi is considered one of the greatest composers of all time..yet he died broke and alone. His music was largely forgotten for over 100 years after his death, until scholars and composers in the 19th century started realizing the amount of incredible work Vivaldi had put out. Why is it that so many of those that we were raised to see as greats..people who had a massive impact on humanity whether through art..music, whatever..why is it that so many of them die broke? Why do we need to “rediscover” them? Some things I will never understand, this has happened to many artists throughout history.

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (4 March 1678 - 28 July 1741) was an Italian Baroque musical composer, virtuoso violinist, teacher, and priest. Born in Venice, the capital of the Venetian Republic, he is recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread across Europe. He composed many instrumental concertos, for the violin and a variety of other instruments, as well as sacred choral works and more than forty operas. His best-known work is a series of violin concertos known as the Four Seasons. Many of his compositions were written for the all-female music ensemble of the Ospedale della Pietà, a home for abandoned children where Vivaldi (who had been ordained as a Catholic priest) was employed from 1703 to 1715 and from 1723 to 1740. Vivaldi also had some success with expensive stagings of his operas in Venice, Mantua and Vienna. After meeting the Emperor Charles VI, Vivaldi moved to Vienna, hoping for preferment. However, the Emperor died soon after Vivaldi's arrival, and Vivaldi himself died, in poverty, less than a year later.

This music is divine. Vivaldi was a priest. An inspired priest. I love his music.
This Vivaldi's masterpiece touched my late beloved mother's heartstrings , and she was impressed with and shed tears . Inspired by this incomparable performance , I will dream of nostalgic my late beloved mother who deeply loved Vivaldi . Vivaldi's melody fits the cherry blossoms in full bloom . Mother , the season of blooming cherry blossoms has come again in Japan . I remember when I was a little boy and you took me by the hand to go see the cherry blossoms in full bloom It's a memory of a long time ago . From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵

He has become my favorite composer...after decades of battle with Bach. He reaches all the way to the core of my soul... It all started with Stabat mater on the radio and I had to stop the car...

Most of the people who performed Vivaldi's music during his lifetime were the teenage girls and women in the orphanage where he worked in Venice. I think the fact that women were usually the first ones to perform his music put him at a grave disadvantage with the powers that be in the misogynistic society of his day with regards to fame, recognition and remembrance. That's why Vivaldi died in almost complete obscurity and only masters like Bach remembered him.
