I recommend using sc instead of dc to avoid holes but you’d have to do 5 rows per tile

If you use a small hook your stitches will be small

Try using 4mm hook or 3.5mm

Maybe you crochet tight. Try a larger hook than the 3.5. Maybe 4.0 or 4.5

Your yarn could also be a smaller weight. Since you're new, I'm not sure if you are familiar with yarn weights. I suggest you learn about them as well if you haven't! Another reason could be what every one said, hook size. Lastly, your tension. You might be crocheting very tightly that may cause the final product to be smaller. A good fix for that is going for a hook bigger than what's on the pattern. I hope that helps!

Question, I see that whenever you were going the white boarder around the bag panels, you did about 3 sc in each stitch and if you add the 40 stitches on the top and bottom, plus the corner stitches, you get 134 stitches, and not 112 like the description says. Not trying to say your wrong, just a little confused. How does that happen? 134 -> 113?
