I'm not a soldier or military guy, but even I could instantly know there are many things wrong in how they engage the enemy unit. All those units are capable of beyond visual engagement and are the best when doing so, and yet they get so close to the enemy and get into formation so nicely that they can't evade and the enemy could easily pick them off one by one.

It's unfortunately a common flaw of media in general. I can kinda understand why they do it. They fear the audience might get bored or confused if opposing forces engage at beyond visual ranges. You don't get those cool dog fights, after all. But I think shows like The Expanse have done a good job of dispelling these concerns. And shows like Gundam do a reasonable job of explaining why combat doesn't effectively happen beyond visual engagement.

You have satellites, you use them to see the battlefield and guide your missiles out of sight of your enemy. If satellites are out, you have AWACS and drones for targeting. If you have to send maned planes, you send them to laser-paint the target for the missiles and for artillery. In this day and age, if you can see your enemy in the horizon, you are already waaay too close to it.

@@exelenxius5832 This is what we think, but maybe they want to retrieve or destroy something in specific without destroying a huge portion of the planet, I think that in this anime aliens want to enslave the entire human race, so they don't want us death just brain washed and that installation have something that blocks the brainwashing. If I remember well, the plot was something like that, but this anime is old AF, I varely remember its name. But yeah this kind of close range combat would be totally non-viable not only for the aliens but also for the kind of ships and airplanes they are showing us here (all capable of attack in "beyond the horizon" distances).

Therefore, the best defense was just to spread things out over multiple ships. There is no need for giant guns anymore.

I really wish Nihonkoku Shoukan would be animated, to able satisfy those anime watchers like me who dreamed about well presented conventional warfare of a organized military in play against barbaric countries. Yes, i watched GATE, but it didn't really satisfy my urge to watch those type of anime i was talking about above. IMHO, It has more degeneracy than actually tackling more about the structure, doctrine, strategy, & politics of the factions in play, despite the fact it's a JGSDF propaganda anime. It wasn't really appealing at all after watching a couple episodes after the Alnus Hill Battle, but decided to go on until last episode just to see the end.

Okay, okay okay, as an analyst (Yes the Marines do more than just throw ourselves at the enemy until they die We are actually pretty smart apes, Don't get me wrong we're still apes we'll tear apart a motherfu**er as our first choice at all times.) At any rate I have watched the video a few times and here is my analysis of the alien construct without any other information. The alien construct's offensive arsenal seems to rely entirely on some form of plasma artillery capable of both anti-surface and anti-air warfare, maximum targeting range of the artillery seems to be around 15 km, so it's similar in it's targeting capabilities to our OTO melara 76mm guns of the Oliver hazard Perry vintage however it falls well behind the capabilities of the modern version. The system used for the containment of the plasma bolts seams to be an advanced version of the Constant Shift Magnetic Envelope Container CSMEC principal used in the US's own anti-missile defense artillery prototypes such as project Marauder And it's successor projects, Albeit without the railgun Component be it permanently physical or temporary Plasma construct. No indeed the lunch mechanism is strange, it seems more similar to the Plasma Shield constructs Used By the Boeing anti-missile bomber protection mechanism Prototype although much faster and quite a bit more advanced, The speed at which the projectiles launch easily breaks Mach 3 since they have no standard mode of acceleration this makes me personally believe that they are somehow using the Plasma expansion principal in order to accelerate the projectiles, I am not however sure how they are able to control the expansion of plasma in order to keep it from completely exiting it's containment envelope however if I was to hazard a guess it would be that they are using some kind of mechanism to create an opening on The plasma envelope at the back of the projectile Wich last for only a fraction of a microsecond, the energy released by the plasma expansion principle in that amount of time would accelerate the projectile tremendously while at the same time the time would be too short for the principle to fully take effect on the plasma too chaotically expand outwards, I would however expect to see a trail of plasmafied Air clouds and hear a constant series of supersonic booms and hypersonic crackles if this was the case as The rapidly expanding plasma cloud would easily reach Mach 10 And as such should be extremely easy to observe. Talking about the anti missile bomber protection mechanism, the alien constructs strangely seems to have no plasma shields or any other form of active protection system apart from it's plasma artillery instead it relies entirely on it's armour for defense. Based on The size of the construct and it's dimensions as well as what we saw it being able to survive, I would guess that it uses some kind of artificial diamondoid armour similar to that proposed for the M1A2SepV4 before it's cancellation. While it has some distinct advantages over the SuperTitaniun monocrystal hyperalloy picked for the Abrams X and now the Abrams A3 proposal as well as the micro laminate depleted uranium Lattice B laminate construct Super 3 (why does everybody love to use words like super on ultra so much?) in use in the M1A2SEPV3, such as cost, ease of installation and a similar capability against kinetic projectiles. It does however have the great weakness of being flammable, and relatively weak to heat Yes we are talking about incredibly high temperatures but in warford this is the standard rather than the exception, when one considers how the construct was basically able to shrug off the tomahawk anti-ship missiles like nothing but was effectively burned down As soon as the ship started to attack it with their Naval Strike and Joint Strike missiles. Their initial penetrator warheads clearly not only pierced right through the armor but straight up denatured it burning the entire thing in a massive heat chain reaction. I find this to be extremely fascinating and incredibly confusing especially considering that it's entire arsenal depends on plasma artillery, perhaps the construct had some kind of defensive systems against plasma that didn't activate against physical weapons?

Good attempt, but one of these days I wish an anime would portray American weapons in the mode they are intended to be used, which beyond visual range, and over the horizon. Assuming the F22s are carrying SiAWs (Stand in Attack Weapons), or whatever attack weapon comes from that program, they will be released long before the target is visually acquired. For the Arleigh Burke class destroyers, they will be firing Tomohawk block 4 cruise missiles from well over a thousand miles away. It would be nice, but not cinematic.

Realistically what the should do is to use bvr missiles. Their attack should compose of multiple small ships that get near the target with explosives (kamikaze boats) and use drones while the army provides artillery and rocket fire like m109s, MLRS and HIMARS while getting extra fire from ballistic missile silos as well as cruise missiles from the carrier strike group’s guided missile destroyers, cruisers like the Arleigh Burke class destroyer and Ticonderoga class cruiser and possible cruise missile submarines like the Ohio class submarines. The Air force should use it’s long range missiles like AGM158 JASSM and AGM158-C LRASM that are launched from aircraft like the F35 Lightning ll and bombers like the B52 Stratofortress. Anyways it’s an anime so it shouldn’t be forced to be like realistic

Anime producers ARE NOT MILITARY experts. There are tons of things that are entirely wrong from a military point of view. Yes, other comments address this but many of these show producers have ZERO knowledge how the military works. Besides the PENTAGON will not explain themselves when Russia will be with their ears listening. Strategies are secrets for each military team. In the US movies and shows never proves ANY ACCURACY whatsoever about military practices and their logistics. For more accuracy the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine gives a more accurate answer and so the insurgents of Hamas vs Israel. These animes are based on entertainment and fantasy. In real life the military could not be THAT dumb but even the best militarized countries can't prevent invasions 100 percent either. There are good writers out there that have a good sense of how the military works in a sensical way without exposing them as idiots waiting for them kick the bucket.
