Ladies. AMAZING cover! I got to admit. I was skeptical at first. (VIXEN fan for 40 years now) You did a great job. Word of advice. Fire your camera person. Sorry,guess I'm the nay sayer in this thread. Musically speaking it sounds mostly like Vixen. Sounds like they kept it simple & only recreated the main parts. Some of those Darker Orchestral tones are missing & the Drums don't seem to fill the space as much as Vixen's. Actually it sounds as though they covered the Guitars,Keys & Lyrics then mixed in the remaining og tracks. *It is a good Cover & as far Cover's goes have been waiting years for someone to do this!* Been saying this song is ripe for a cover. The chick singing is where I'd have to say she's getting it 'technically correct' in that she's mostly hitting the notes. The parts where she isn't can easily be chalked up to style.or flare. That is she's putting her own spin on it & is fine. I've never heard her before but don't get the feeling that she 'can't' match Janet's range. Anyone with an experienced ear can tell the difference between physical compensation & artistic/creative choice. However that being said. *'She does sound emotionally flat'!* Meaning after nearly 20 years of singing Karaoke I can tell you there's a massive difference between singing it with *'Accuracy of Notational Range' & 'Accuracy of Emotional Output'* In other words she clearly must really 'Like' the song,hence why she decided to cover the vocals. However,perhaps she couldn't 'Feel' it during recording to convey that emotinal discharge. I have learned that when doing covers,which is all Karaoke is in it's Truest form,is a straight up Lyrical Cover of chosen song. Case & point,you can always tell when people are or which people are clapping because they actually enjoyed that & thought you did goog,& those who are clapping just to be polite or perhaps just give props for stepping up to the mic. Often,even if someone doesn't necessarily 'hit that note',they'll still get a large round of applause if they can Channel the emotion & energy of the singer to whom they're covering! This makes logical sense. People seem to understand that channeling that energy is way harder than just hitting the notes & thus respect those who can as it's one of the hardest things to do. This,is what many would say makes the best 'Actors'. Their ability to not simply act like the real person they're tasked with portraying,but to actually understand why this individual 'chose' to act this way. Or *what things happened in order for them to say the things they're saying? Which explains the emotion the words are being delivered upon.!* *If our Throats & Mouths are the Instrument,then our Minds are the Sheets of Tablature which get Accentuated through our Emotional Filters'!"* - Jeffrey S Ohler -
